For the reasons the OP states, there is no way it is worth it. But if you don't like something, that's a good enough of a reason. Just don't try to blame non-issues to make your emotional decision seem logical.

There is no logic reason to own a DeLorean. They are horrible cars in every aspect, but they look cool so voila. It is not something that should be rationalized, because it cannot be.

 

Buying a new car every three years is an expensive luxury. If it isn't too late the OP should rent the same model TDI for a week before buying to make sure he'll be happy with it. OTOH some lucky thrifty person will have an opportunity to get a recent used Prius.

 

I went from TDIs to Prii and couldn't be happier. Besides the price of diesel fuel being higher than regular, I also put in an additive at every fueling. I had to be sure the fuel had enough lubricity and during the Winter, enough anti-gelling. With the rest of the VWs, al I can say is good luck. They were back to the dealer more than any cars I've ever owned.

 

How's that trade working out for you OP? Im curious how the mpgs will be affected by the cheat fix. I think your regen will be less reliable too from what I read.

Kelly Blue Book (KBB) is a website where people go to check the value of their car or a car they might be interested in buying. KBB has been keeping an eye on the auction prices of Volkswagen diesel vehicles that were affected by the emission scandal and has found that values on those vehicles have declined significantly.


According to KBB, Volkswagen diesel vehicles have seen auction prices decline by 16% since the emission scandal started. The row has also affected prices on VW gas vehicles as well, KBB figures show that auction values for gas VW vehicles have declined by 2.9%.

New car shopping activity for VW TDI models has declined by 2.4%. The most significant declines in VW model values are for the VW Golf SportWagen and Gold with decreases in shopping activity of 6.2% and 3.7% respectively. KBB also notes that the diesel row has Audi A3 shoppers looking at competing models.

The most commonly cross-shopped vehicles are the Lexus NX, BMW 2-Series, and the Mercedes CLA. KBB says that KBB traffic for VW diesel models has generally decreased after a slight increase due to bad publicity. VW still hasn’t said how it plans to fix the vehicles that are affected by the emission cheating
