    It is not possible to adjust the odometer in the field. That would make it too easy to commit odometer fraud.

    How long did you wait before taking that photo? The fuel gauge usually takes a few minutes to register properly after 12V power had been removed and restored.

    I took the photo right when I turned it on (after I closed all the doors, so it would stop beeping at me with the triangle exclamation).

    Update: I drove earlier today and after half a mile the fuel gauge "reset" to half full. It's better than empty, but I'm still going to try the calibration that valde3 suggested.

    I don't think I would recalibrate unless it is reading incorrectly, like 3 pips and you run out. But if you do, please let us know your results.

    2005 Prius - Silver - Looks and drives basically like new.
    299,999 miles in July of 2015. ( INFURIATING: Odometer STUCK at 299,999 - No fix for this )
    Now I use one of the 2 trip meters to keep track of [​IMG] milage and add it to 299,999.
    Currently at 302,000 miles.
    I use Mobil 1 Green from Walmart every 25,000 miles.
    UPDATE : At 250,000 miles I switched to VALVOLINE MAX LIFE SYN BLEND. (Cost)
    Lifetime mileage is 43 MPG, due to harsh upstate NY winters.
    Bought used at 115,000 miles in 2011 for $6300.
    I travel about 1000 miles per week for work, 93 miles each way.
    2015: More miles than usual about 71,000 more in 2015. Took some day trip and about 10 trips to Cleveland for Cavaliers home games. Coming from Rochester, NY.

    NO DEALER WORK, ALL DONE BY MYSELF OR MY MECHANIC (NON-DEALER):
    1. My favorite car ever - I have 2 of them 2004 and 2005.
    2. This is for the 302,000 2005 model.
    3. NO MAJOR ENGINE COMPONENTS OR REPAIR (Electric or Combustion).
    4. Tighten Assembly at end of steering shaft under car - This got rid of annoying cluck / rattle through the steering column !!!
    5. Button Cluster Steering Wheel (RIGHT) - Replace the Spiral Cable Spring - 84306-0E010. (In the Steering Wheel) - May have been related to tightening the steering shaft assembly.
    6. I replace struts all around with springs (just for safety - not really needed though).
    7. I did replace front pads and put on brake kit for rear. (200,000 mark - not really needed.)
    8. I replaced muffler and rear pipe at 170,000 miles (salt damage).
    9. Engine light is currently on for common issue. Can't remember code of hand. I just bought a Mass Airflow Sensor to get rid of engine light, will replace this weekend. Hopefully that will take are of light. Could be one of the oxygen sensors or catalytic converter. I found a "Walker 16337 Ultra EPA Certified Catalytic Converter" on Amazon for $232. I may have to get this part if MAS does not get rid of engine light.
    10. Replace front bumper cover (used) after hitting a stray construction cone (rush hour traffic).
    11. With bumper cover replaced front passenger wheel well lining.
    12. 3 wheel bearings - none since 180,000, mechanic thinks possibly a bad brand. I think previous owner had small fender bender and messed up the front end. I have also heard of other gen 2 owners with wheel bearing issues in front.
    13. Changed almost all bulbs to LED, except headlights obviously.
    14. Serpentine Belt.
    15. Engine and Cabin air filters every year.
    16. The original wheels were not on car when I purchased.
    17. Tinted rear doors and hatch windows for sun and car and truck lights at night. (THRUWAY at winter)
    18. Replaced headlights 2 or 3 times - Halogen.
    19. Use strictly standard unleaded gas - 87 octane.
    20. Always keep it under 75 and no hard unnecessary acceleration.
    21. No hard cornering, or heavy breaking. (Except for a Buck (Staring at me) in next lane in front of me at 65 MPH.)
    22. 1 can of SEAFOAM through gas, oil and throttle body every year. (1 can total).
    23. Tires - I use Michelin defenders and get about 90,000+ files from them. (Set of 4)
    24. Every year I wax with Carnuba wax and touch up with touch up brush from any parts store.
    25. I use standard wipers in the summer and ANCO red tip winter blades in the winter.
    26. I restored my headlight lenses twice a year until I bought Rustoleum Clear Coat and applied with foam brush. I just sprayed the clear coat right into brush then applied. No taping off necessary for this. It has held up for 5 months like new, no clouding over. Be careful that the foam brush is CLEAN and high quality. In fact I would use a 2 inch wide standard bristle brush next time. The black foam actually started the pull off the foam brush.
    27. White Lithium Grease on all door jams and moving parts, especially the rear hatch latch. This seems to work better when well lubed.
    28. Original 12 volt and main battery.
    29. I have run out of gas 2 times, main RED warning light came on both occasions. No issues, just filled up and let car sit turned on for a while and ready to go. No damage as some have reported. BTW: You can go about 50-60 miles after the FUEL indicator light comes on in both my GEN 2 Prii.
    30. I use Mothers Interior Cleaner on all interior parts, works great for food, coffee or drink stains.
    31. I get car's interior cleaned at Delta Sonic car wash every year including seats and floors (especially the drivers side and salt stains and build up).
    32. Get car washed (BASIC) every week.
    33. 2016 Had to to rear brakes. They locked up on me in the rain (drivers side mainly). This also created flat spot in my Michelin Defender on the drivers side. (had to replace tire because of ride and WHOOOOP, WHOOOOOP,WHOOOOP,WHOOOOP noise.)
    34. At 365,000 replaced another wheel bearing trying to track down the WHOOOOP,WHOOOOP sound. (Did not need to be changed yet, did it anyways because winters had done some damage to it. So this was preventative.)
    35. Real Geek Toy: Bought BLUETOOTH OBDII Scan Tool and use with my android smart phone app TORQUE. Scan tool was only 22$ US. (This app and scan tool are amazing. You can reset error codes after working on brakes or other things, Customized Gauge Readouts for RPMs, Coolant Temp, Torque, Intake Air Temp, Mileage, uses GPS for things like Speed, Altitude, Compass, Accelerometer, Tilt, GPSCord.... ) Some Video links: VIDEO1 - VIDEO2
    36. At 368,000 trying to get rid of RED CAR light that intermittently comes on (usually on the highway). ( The following fix worked for me. No more RED CAR light. ) Symptoms: RED CAR light comes on about every 100 miles or so, with the loud beep and the whole red triagle show. After some PRIUS CHAT research decide to replace the Electric Motor Water Pump. Water Pump (about $70, did it myself in about 1 hour.) Watch these repair videos. I decided to go through wheel well while I had the car on jack stand. This gave me the best access to the pump area.
    37. Getting P0446EVAP error for last month (started at 371,000 miles). I am getting new gas cap. Could be a lot of things according to PRIUS CHAT search on P0446. May end up buying and replacing used on EBAY - Part 77740-47050 (35$).
    38. The following happens about every 2 weeks. Only remaining issue I have is an intermittent issue where car will not go into park. This usually happens when parking the car or with movement of the gear shifter. The only solution is to put on the emergency brake, turn the car off for about 3-5 minutes). After waiting trying power cycling the car until you can eventually shift in DRIVE. This could be a gear shifter issue, or from what I have researched it could be a harbinger of bad things for my traction battery or Electric Motor. I have driven with this issue for about 8 months now.

    1. You are running a 25,000 mile oil change interval with Mobil 1 AFE? What weight and how is consumption over the interval?

    2. Can you explain #6 with some detail?

    Congratulations John on your mileage! Hope we (me and my Prii) will get it there too.
    I have a question on your 4th point. Could you compare the cluck/rattle to my video?


    It really feels loose at some point, but I have tried to tighten the bolt on the assembly and it felt pretty tight, I was even worried that I will overtighten it. But if you confirm the same issue than I will try it once again as it is annoying as hell and I feel very uncomfortable driving it :-(

    might not be compatible with the 2004,clearly its a different layout , just wondering why you bought one with such high miles, it stops at 299,999 anyway.

    2008 currently about 388k on the odometer bought new.
    December 4, 2013 I hit 300k.
    ICE replaced at 293k because of a severely burnt piston.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
    2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? No
    3) Did you replace the brake pads? Once at 293k while ICE was replaced
    4) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? 44.5 with old ICE. With replacement 45.5
    Replacement ICE had about 70k
    Love the little deer magnet. BTW I've hit 7 so far. It's bee well worth the price! IMG_00000170.jpg

    No. The dealer didn't have any idea why it happened. But there was a large hole in the top and the tech couldn't believed it was still running.
    But I really didn't care either... 293K+ is a lot of miles on a little engine.
    It more than paid for itself and the replacement.
    I accidentally reset the mileage about a month ago and currently my mileage is 47.7.
    I never got that good with the old engine. LOL

    Well over the weekend my '05 Prius reached the magic 299,999 mile mark. Image my surprise when it wouldn't advance to 300,000 miles. I even circled the Wegman's parking lot for 20 minutes to try and get a picture of the magic 300,000. I'm a good 500 miles beyond that point now.

    I bought it new to replace my hard luck '02 prius. In 2 1/2 years I had put 104,000 mile on it, hit a deer, had a door torn off in a parking lot, had a cow use it as a scratching post (punching in a whole side), put telephone pole through the catalytic converter (field bouncing, the pole was laying down), and finally had it crushed by a white SUV. I loved that '02...

    So in my ten years of ownership (come December) it has been rock solid.
    -Warranty replacement of the headlight auto-leveling sensor
    -Recall on the gas pedal/floor mats
    -First brake job at ~200,000 miles
    -12v battery replaced at some point
    -Still on the original HV battery, though it is showing signs of age when the AC is cranked.
    -HID Headlamp/Ballast replacement, passenger ~200,000 miles, driver ~250,000 miles
    -Struts (all) and rear springs replaced at ~290,000 miles. Now drives like new... Honestly I now look at Prius's with sagging rears and think strut's baby strut's!
    -Had to recently, ~298,000 miles replace the hood latch. It failed. Complete fluke.
    -Burns about a quart of oil every 1000 or so miles. More in cold weather, less in the summer.
    -Mileage in the mid 40's, but most miles are highway above 75 mph, if I go slower it still gets about 50.
    -Recently a wheel well cover departed at high speed. It was loud and quite exciting!
    -An invisible car bra has saved the car from looking like it has been sandblasted. Can not recommend them enough.
    -Small amount of rust in the hood.
    -GPS is starting to lose lock when it rains. Most annoying.

    The car is still in great shape. My money is the engine will go before the battery. Game plan right now is get it through this winter. Come the following fall decide if I want to push one last winter. Gonna be a bit tricky without a working odometer.

    Hello Im new to the forum and looking forward to the 300000 miles club!
    I own a 2013 Prius with 100000 miles
    I drive 50000 miles per year aprox (medical courier)
    I take it to the dealership every 5000 miles for maintenance..so far no problems on the car
    But im spending a lot of cash there( toyota dealership)
    I aint no mechanic and would like to get your opinions on this matter:
    Should I take the car for maintenance to the Toyota dealership every 5000 miles?
    Firestone , tiresplus? independent mechanic, any advice?
    Im not a mechanic , but wanna do everything on my hands to get my car safely to 300000
    Any advice would be very much appreciated

    Jiffy Lube if you can't do it yourself.. I only go to the Dealership for warranty and major repairs (almost never).

    If I were you id bring it to Toyota dealer every second oil change. I'd be doing the oil changes at 10k miles too. Competent Indy mechanic when not at dealer. You're prob throwing away money as it it imo

    I just rolled over 299999 miles yesterday in my 05. I was surprised when it stopped. The cruise control quit yesterday. Coincidence?

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Yes, a pack from a salvage yard at 190K miles. The blower was plugged with dog hair.
    2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes, once. Need to do it again soon
    3) Did you replace the brake pads? yes
    4) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
    5) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? 5k Valvoline
    6) How about post a picture of 300,000 miles on ODO? It doesn't go to 300K
    7) Are you the original owner?Yes
    8) How many miles under your ownership?
    9) Feel free to add anything else you wish to share The heater blower is growling. It will need to be replaced soon. The cruise control just quit yesterday. Had to replace headlamp bulbs recently. One kept going out then both at once.

    I rolled over 300k on the way into the bay area and I had turned it off by then. I didn't notice it not working until the trip home that night. I tried it several times over the weekend and it didn't work. And this morning, it worked! Maybe a loose connection? If this is the biggest problem I have after 300k miles I think I'm doing pretty good.
