You can always use the search feature with "grille blocking", it has been mentioned many times here on PriusChat, and if the worst comes to the worst, try google!
Sorry for confusion I was asking what I would need in addition to what you already have for foam assuming we can coordinate meeting half way. I was just checking on my tires. : ) I guess General Altimax RT 43s aren't too bad. No money or storage space for winter tires. Luckily I'm near water so we don't get the worst of the storms although last year was pretty bad.
…only need a time & a meeting place (coffee, lunch), I'm pretty flexible, and already have whatever else is needed!
I would say that anything other than stock would be not approved. That being said, I have wondered if slowing the air down over the radiator would increase the heat. Around here, we call it a "Kentucky Thermostat" when you're too cheap to buy and replace your thermostat. With one of higher temperature. Usually, when a t-stat fails, it sticks open. Occasionally, they stick closed but not very often nowadays.
Temp is like a roller coaster ride. One day up, next day down. I'll hold off doing mine until the temp stays below 50 for a couple of days. Today, its 74 and tomorrows temp expected to be in the 70's again.
You've probably guessed what I'm thinking. If I have foam on my grill and for some crazy reason my hybrid battery fails, would Toyota blame the foam? I have almost 5000 miles to go before next oil change so I won't worry about it for now. ; )
I'm blocked all year. Here's the link to the definitive thread: First Morning with a Blocked Grill | PriusChat Post 186 on page 10 has a photo of my 2006. Post 271 on page 14 also has some good photos. That thread was only 17 pages and it took 5 years. The foam tubes for the bottom are sold prepackaged by Frost King. One time the store had a table set up by the door or it will be by the back end of the row with the pipes. The insulation for the top is more like rubber and sold in one long piece. It is also a tube slit down the length but there is adhesive along the edges. I cut a C section measured to fit the spaces then compression fit (shoved in). Don't push too hard or too far in. The excess insulation can be stored for future use by fitting it around your pipes. It is either 1/2" or 3/4". Plumbing specs can be confusing. The pieces last for years. The attached photo is over 8 years old and I'm still using some of those pieces on my 2010. -- You can use the edge of the key to open the fob. -- Toyota recommends what is in Toyota's best interests. I prefer to evaluate the data presented here by those who know more than I do, draw my own conclusions and act accordingly.
17 page thread took 5 yrs 27 page thread in a little over 2 months : / Anyone obsessing over buying a Gen 2, send them on over here! : ) Thank you everyone for spelling things out so clearly along the way!
Also, in regards to grille blocking, keep in mind that the new Gen 4 (2016) Prius will have automatic grille shutters. In other words, their lower grille will have shutters that stay closed in cool temperatures and open up in hot temperatures. Same thing as Gen 2 or Gen 3 users do when grille blocking, just manually. Does that mean that Toyota endorses grille blocking? Good question. By the way, several other cars, including the Chevy Cruze Eco and the Subaru Legacy/Outback, already have automatic grille shutters to improve fuel efficiency.
I does seem logical. I am way out of help for warranty. Blocking obviously does help winter fuel economy. Going tomorrow, I ran out of time today. Eww, not politically correct. Diagonal cutters have been called "dykes" for years. I had to explain to many students it is better to call them diagonal wire cutters, for fear your female co-worker gets you called on the carpet over your faux pas. (I know, I hate to even mention it but it may save you embarrassment or a black eye!).
I hear you Wil. My Dad was probably the most politically incorrect person on Earth. As a kid, he had a Black Lab and can guess what they called him. But almost thirty years in the Air Force may have been a softening agent on him. I was baby sat by a black couple that were the best.I don't have any problems with my students of color, either. If you respect rhem, they return it. They told me Mr. JTM you are good people. Because of that, I had a starter class of thirty, fifteen of them had ankle bracelets. Since we we're inside a steel braced concrete building, their tracking signals could not make it though. It is very hard to engage students when their beepers all went off simultaneously. That was politically incorrect to the other students. I stopped shortly there after. It was all about the money. The whole place was based on "Pygmalion". If you keep telling someone that they are something, eventually they believe it. I couldn't keep telling the lie, I had to tell the truth I have plenty of zip ties and will get some pipe insulation to make an air blocker. You guys are smarter than I am. I would have never thought about blocking off the grille.
Here is my favourite quote regarding political correctness. It is from the obituary of P. D. James (Baroness James of Holland Park), a lovely lady, a great writer, incredibly smart, but sadly, no longer with us. I culled this from the BBC web-site: "(From her BBC obit.) In a 2009 speech she attacked what she called "the cult of political correctness," which, she said, actually raised barriers in society. "If, in speaking to minorities we have to weigh every word in advance in case we, inadvertently, give offence, how can we be at ease with each other, celebrate our common humanity, our shared anxieties and aspirations."
Wow and Bravo that does say very well. Indianapolis is under siege right now from our own local terrorists. It seems that I-65 is a direct link to Gary, IN, the same place Michael Jackson was from. It seems that guys in Gary find a girlfriend in Indy, so they can have an Indy address. They become "street pharmacists" to help support their family. The locals don't like it. Every day there is another shooting. You will not hear about it online or in the papers. You might hear about it when a local police man gets shot or dies in the line of duty. Indianapolis is up to 105 murders since the first of the year. We are running with Chicago, Detroit and even New York City. We don't want to be there. JTM
Reviving this thread. Was wondering if daisy555 | PriusChat still has her Prius. Haven't seen any more posts from her.
I miss this thread & the daily updates. Hopefully Daisy is too busy driving around and trying to wipe the smile from her face. I hope she isn't lost in Lowe's plumbing section looking for pipe insulation.
I know....I miss thread too! I've been thinking about all of you, how much you helped me and my need to give you an update! I should reach 1000 miles this week. Need a few more road trips before the bad weather hits. : ) It's late so I'll give you an update tomorrow! I have a few questions and concerns. Imagine that! : } Thanks for checking in!
