My 2008 Prius was stolen and retrieved by police two days later. It was entered and driven by an electronic reader or a key, because there was no damage to starter or to the car. So there is no value in locking your car!!! Toyota needs to hear from all owners that there is no longer any security or effective lock system.
this has been an ongoing problem. millions of pri have been stolen, driving insurance rates through the roof. i remove my battery at night, and bring it in the house with me. but then, what if they decide to break into the house and steal it? so then i thought, would it be worth draining the gas too? that would be a little tricky, but you have to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. and/or gals. one thing i learned, there are some areas in california that have very high crime rates.
This is a true, there is some device that thieves have that can unlock almost all new cars. Best thing to do is not leave anything of value in the car and use The Club Steering Wheel Lock.
I believe that there was no damage to the starter because the Prius doesn't have one. The amazing part of the story is the police actually recovered the car.
Confusing thread, but OK we have an expected fake original post, which Bisco immediately sensed and made a funny response about taking the large battery out of his PiP. We once heard from the cops after 5-days that they found our stolen Camry, but it was totaled by State Farm we never saw it again.
