My dealer decided to offer 6 month "complimentary" roadside assistance from some 3rd party company based out of Illinois (Keep in mind I'm in Canada). I have to activate with 24 hours of my service (i.e. tomorrow) and all claims are sent to an office in California. Does this seem odd to anyone? http://www.roadsideprotect.com http://www.roadsideprotect.com/wm to register
It is odd but it does say that Canada is supported according to their website. http://www.roadsideprotect.com/home/roadside-assistance/ Roadside Protect utilizes a broad network of contracted, insured service providers throughout the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico to handle all types of vehicle disablement services.
I'm also curious what it will cost after the 6 months because we've been AAA members since the 70's. We don't use it as much now, but before GPS, we used their Trip-Tiks, maps and Tour Books extensively. When we bought the Prius, my main concern was towing, AAA only tows you to the nearest mechanic who might not be qualified to work on the Prius. I don't want to rehash EWs again, but one feature is towing to the nearest Toyota Service Center, not just a local mechanic. Once the EW is up, I may upgrade my AAA to Plus for the additional towing allowance. I'll weigh that against just paying the fee for any additional towing out of pocket.
Apparently it just expires after 6 months with me doing anything. I don't know. I didn't sign up because it seems a bit sketchy.
