European Toyota Prius versus USA Toyota Prius

    This is a video to compare the basic visual differences of European toyota prius vs USA Toyota Prius, if you have any additions or differences kindly post them in the comments.

    There's going to be regional differences in every car based on country laws such as European law requiring headlight washers with HID or LED headlights, side indicators (fender mounted or mirror mounted) and certain European countries require a rear foglight. In the U.S., the side reflectors must be amber in the front and red in the rear (Europe and Asia allow for white reflectors. This is the same for bicycles too actually).

    Other differences - Europe and USA have different programming of the "ECO Mode" and Europe and USA share the same suspension tuning. In Japan, that tuning is available on S Touring, G Touring and G Touring w/ Leather. The S and G get a softer, "standard" suspension setup. In the UK, the Gen 3 was initially unavailable with DRCC but a "Tech Pack" was later added on the options list.

    I agree, From my experience driving both EU and USA imported prius i found the Eco mode in US version of toyota prius more responsive then in EU version of toyota prius.

    I am not sure about the suspension but also from experience i found the US Toyota Prius to be more stable on the road and with much less noise and better noise isolation.

    Is the European version displaying liters per 100 km, or other, say: km's per liter?

    In North America, both Canadian and US Prius can select either miles per hour or kilometers per hour, which is sensible, there's a lot of travel between the two countries. But US Prius have mpg display set, and Canadian version has liters per 100 km set, ie: neither can switch those units.

    The UK one had mpg (UK) with an option to set to litres/100km and km per litre.

    Are we discussing visual differences or other differences?
    Gen2 US had bladder tank vs. hard tank in EU.
    US is CARB certified, which possibly cuts MPG during warm-up period.

    The US gen2 had drum brakes on the rear, the European versions all had rear disc brakes.

    The differences on the gen3 for EU/US are minor. The gen 3 EU version (LHD & RHD) had the HUD as standard from 2009.

    Why does Europe need fog lights? Surely the drivers turn-on their lights, which makes the car visible even in fog.

    Because when it's foggy here you can't see the back of a car in front even if they have their rear lights on. The rear fog light ensures you do.

    Some times it can be so foggy you can barely see the front of your car - visibility down to 10 or 20 feet. Rear fogs can be a pain if they're used when it's only slightly foggy as they can dazzle the driver behind. The problem seems to occur with older drivers who 'forget' they had switched it on. That's the reason why most modern cars only have the one rear fog light, so they're not confused with brake lights.

    This time of year is a nightmare for fog and many massive pileups occur.

    I had a Prius Imported from Germany and it had only liters per 100 km. Toyota should add a simple math algorithm and allow the user to change the fuel consumption reading from liters/100km to MPG to km per liter.

    I didn't think the fog lights were needed until i saw a prius with a back fog light in actual fog where that light was the only thing that was visible from the car. I think it should be standard on all cars world wide.
