I took a picture but can't upload it. I only have about 400 miles on my Prius c and I was surprised to get 97 mpg on a 5 mile trip. Does that sound ok or maybe something is wrong with the computer. Any thoughts? Seems "to good"... ok I now see where to upload.
Not too shabby. Now if you can do that through the whole tank then you will have GREAT MPG. Enjoy your new Prius C and "Welcome to Prius Chat"!
Round trip, or one way? Prius MPG is highly sensitive to even very small slopes, even imperceptiple elevation changes. But with the right skill and conditions (and low speeds), 100+ mpg can be achieved even on truely flat ground. Many Japanese hypermilers, and even some here, have done it for whole tanks of fuel. But few North Americans can find such conditions coinciding with their normal daily drive needs.
During the first minute of driving, your car actually uses mostly electric power to move the car, so the engine can warm up and quickly light off the catalytic converter. This stage can get you extremely good MPG because of that - you can get going on electric, although it does drain the hybrid battery down, so the engine will have to charge it up again later. My 2012 C3 did 105mpg one day on a short trip but I did not believe it. Sometimes I think the computer makes erroneous calculations.
My 2010 got 25.7 mpg (indicated) from Denver to Dallas last night (14.5 hrs) pulling a trailer with my Line box/Dog, Roll away box, all my tools and room for rent furnishings going 65 mph with snow tires and steel rims... wait...I meant to say 125.7 mpg...
It's very possible as the engine was already warmed up. Extrapolate those numbers to something more understandable.
