My 2010 Prius II was totaled earlier this month (the other driver insurance accepted total liability) and I'm in a hurry to buy a replacement. I looked at a 2012 v 5 without the advanced tech package with 50k miles. I didn't get a chance to test drive it. Assuming it's just another used but not abused prius, is it a good idea to buy it? How many mile does the hybrid battery usually last?
If I was guessing, based on Gen 1 and Gen 2, 8 to 10 years, 120,000 to 200,000 miles. However very few Gen 3 batteries have gone over 200,000 miles and none over 6 years. The v will get about 10 MPG less than your 2010.
I have 2012 Prius lV model 5 , 100K no problems, runnng in San Francisco, only thing with all the hills is only 39mpg . the taxi cabs have at least here have at least 250K before selling. er and you can haulo alot I like it since the rear doors are longer and you can haul alot of stuff since the rear doesnt slope down in rear. I like the softex since thety hole up after constant use. i just brought 2015 persona because of gas mileage. and keep V as hauler.
We have a 2012 "v" 5 w/o tech. package, our first hybrid...I would buy another "v" BUT NOT the 2012 model; it had poor offset front collision test results...Toyota has made modifications to later models to improve their frontal protection...
Thanks all for the input. The owner of the 2012 was asking a fair price but with all the incentives the dealerships were running to get rid of 2015 models, I ended up buying a new 2015 v 2 this past weekend. I went ahead and ordered a set of Clazzio seat covers and I'll be driving it in styles soon.
Seems like quite a few batteries over 200,000 miles. Did you mean longevity, or just the percentage of Gen 3's over 200k?
