30k service needs and cost?

As for the damned wait, the dealership cannot really justify charging $300+ for a 10 minute service.

that article is bogus, typical cr. your best bet is to stick around here, and see what the real experts recommend for 30k service, then shop that around. avoid the dealer and chains like the plague, try to find a reliable mechanic. if you can't by word of mouth, check the triple a website.

 

For just oil change and tire rotation, $60~80 seems reasonable compensation. $15~25 seems like slavery or "loss leader".

That's WITHOUT the engine and cabin filter change: there's no way I'd pay someone to do that, and often replacement is not warranted, depending on your locale.

 

It is not slavery when you do the work for yourself. And to be clear, the cost is for the materials. The labor is free.

Vancouver's mayor has pretty much opened the flood gates, with "medical" stuff. do not know why, but the nudge-nudge-wink-wink of it irritates the heck out of me. I'm generally cranky tho.

Pot calling the kettle black aside (no pun intended): there have been some sad results, especially teens with brains still developing.

I almost hope the Feds DO crack down on them: mayor Moonbeam and crew.

 

I have the 60k coming up real soon for my C (same service as the 30k one). I purchased the filters from Amazon ($50 shipped for engine air filter and charcoal cabin air filter) plus I plan on spending $80 at my trusted mechanic shop for an oil change and tire rotation. My local Toyota dealership charged me $260 for the 30k service, and lost my business since then. Well not true, I am taking it to them for my recall work but that's about it.

 

If I were you I would change dealers. You will need an oil change and tire rotation. Check the cabin filter and air filter yourself and replace them yourself if needed. That is all that you need.

 

Not sure what's the policy for warranty works in Canada. I am sticking with the dealership just to be safe. Will switch immediately when warranty runs out.

I have a dashcam and it actually recorded the technicians saying they have no idea how to service this strange car.

Finally got around to taking my C in for the recall. They wanted $60 for just an oil change or $100 for oil change and tire rotation (plus "inspection"), but I politely declined since I'm planning on taking it to my trusted mechanic next week. $260 would be for oil change, tire rotation, and cabin/engine filter changes. I paid $50 on Amazon for both filters and did those myself.

I changed the engine and cabin air filter for the first time myself (last one was done at the dealership). I discovered they forgot to hook up the plastic spring arm after they did it last, and the plastic clip pieces were a bit deformed, but what can you expect from the stealership.

The engine filter is a super easy. The glove compartment is tight but will come out for the cabin filter, and the rest is easy.

 

Interesting, I went to the dealer for what turned out to be my last warantee covered oil change at about 31,000 miles. I had just changed the cabin air filter myself two weeks prior to that. While I was waiting the service writer came out and informed me that the technician said I need a new cabin air filter. When I told him I had just replaced it, he apologized and walked back to the repair area to let the technician know.

When he brought the keys at the end, he apologized for the technician's error saying that he must have just looked at the edge and not actually pulled out the filter to look at it. I just took the keys are drove off, but later noticed that the spring arm had not been reconnected to the glove box door. Figured it was pay back for the tech getting caught in his little scam attempt, but now it seems to be a widespread laziness issue.

 

*My dealer - Lorenson Toyota, westbtook ct - always has monthly service specials. "The Works, $24.95 for oil change, tire rotation, top off all fluids, and multi point vehicle inspection", which includes breaks. The cabin air and engine air filters are about $20 each. I go that route.

 

Do you mind if I ask what you actually got done with your 25,000 mile service? I ran out of the warranty of 2 years before hitting the mileage due to an extended hospital stay and will be needing that service within the next 250 miles. I'm curious what the dealer performs for that interval before the big 30,000 mile service.

 

at 25k, they rotate the tyres, inspect a few things and send you on your way, all the poorer.

at 30 k, you need oil and filter, tyre rotation, inspect a few things, inspect, clean or replace cabin and air filter. no biggie.

 

Don't let them automatically slam in new air filters, have them inspect first. Maybe show to you if possible. Depends a lot on locale when they need replacement.

Better yet, just check the filters yourself, keep them out of it: they're dead simple.
