    Hi all,

    I am new around here, so I hope I’m doing this right... I have a 2007 Prius, and bought it used about 4 months ago. I have not had any issues with it until last night. Last night I was driving home and the red triangle with the “ ! “ in the middle and check engine light came on. The car seems to be running fine, but it scared me to see the lights come on...so this morning I called my local Toyota dealership.

    NOTE: I recently went to them for an oil change and they informed me that I had three recalls on my vehicle that needed replacing, but I did not get them replaced because I was told it would take 5-6 hrs (which I didn’t have at the time).

    Anyway, they told me that it would cost $70 to have the codes read...and that did not include parts that may need replaced... I thought that sounded a little high for just having the codes read so I went to my local Autozone and they gave me this code:

    P0A93 - Inverter Cooling System Performance

    The guys at Autozone have no idea what it means and told me to google and ask around before going to the dealer... so I did and I think it might be one of the parts that were recalled...but I’m not completely sure...I’m no expert on cars. I just called my dealer again and setup an appointment to have my recalls replaced this week...but if I could also figure out why my lights are on then that would make me feel better.

    So any help or advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

    They will read the codes for free when you do the recall. The inverter pump (recall item) is probably the reason for the lights. You may want to tow it into the dealer, so you don't get stranded

    Well when I talked to the dealer today and told him about getting the recalls replaced, I mentioned the lights and he still quoted me the $70 for reading the codes. So I think they will still charge me even with my recalls.

    Do you think its that serious to get it towed in? Other then the lights it didn't seem to drive any differently.

    You already know what the codes are, you pulled them. Dealers are strange, you ask, they charge you. You don't ask, they do it for free so they can get your business on what's needed.

    If the inverter pump has failed, your car can get overheated and the inverter can get damaged. You can check if there is turbulance in the inverter coolant reservoir. With the car in "Ready" mode, open the cover to the inverter coolant reservoir, there should be turbulance in the coolant when you look in. That's the sign of a working pump. No movement or turbulance, the pump has failed.

    P0A93 is a failed inverter pump. One of the recalls you did not do. Get the recalls done. If the dealer finds the pump is covered by the recall, then there should be no charge for the diagnostic IMO. Either way you got to fix the car. Or get something different.

    In the future, plan for unexpected expenses and loss of time. You could have rented a car while they were doing to the recalls.

    A lesson can be learned from the OP's situation - Toyota recalled our Pri to replace the inverter pump. GET IT DONE. You can cause very expensive damage to your car by ignoring any of the cooling circuits, esp. the inverters cooling loop. That circulating pump is a critical part. Not finding the time to have the recalls done before, didnt save any time in the future. Now the car is down for the count until the pump is fixed = more lost time.

    Good news: like somebody else said, you know what the code is... no need to get it read. Bring the Prius in for the recalls, the pump is under recall anyways. You save $70 and will get a new inverter cooling pump, probably a new intermediate shaft bolt, and I dont know what the third recall is for (brakes?). Either way, its all free.

    3rd recall is probably the floormat/accelerator clearance check.

    Is there another dealer you can go to maltesekira?

    Even though you were given the code by autozone, it's always comforting to confirm it. As JC91006 advised: don't ask about any code pull fee when you go. Just get the recalls done!
    When I took my car in for similar recalls, the service dept. did a 30-or-whatever points check to highlight what other maintenance may be needed. They WILL be eager to get more business from you.

    The car starts fine. It drives fine for a while and then the AC stops working. Soon after that the big triangle red ligt comes on. If you keep on driving and alarms starts ringing and the brakes take longer to engage. If I turned it off and wait a little. The car starts again w/out a problem. Then it does it all over again. Times vary. Already changed small back battery and the problem persists.

    it seems that when the car stops cooling heated air conditioning, turn on the lights after error with red triangle,,, and then we begin to stop. The next day the car works again perfectly,,, until it starts to warm up again after an hour of use. and always the same problem. And will replace the small battery, and water pump Hybrid system, I can please help solve this problem .... Thanks!

    I change the system pump hybrido,,, and again the same mistake happen, and also purge the system does not work either. I do not see bubbles have the refrigerant container ....

    1. Can you feel vibration from the electric motor in the inverter coolant pump? If not, check the AM2 fuse.
    2. If the electric motor is running, but you do not see fluid turbulence in the coolant reservoir, then you need to work on getting air out of the system.

    Patrick ! Thans for you pacience,,,

    feels that operates the electric motor and the pump type sumbido apparently makes a noise, but only when for the car. There is no bubble cooland container,,, .. seems to be circulating this very still, as I identify if the pump works, or if there is air in the system?

    The dealer told us the same thing about the diagnostic but ended up not charging us when it turned out that replacing the inverter coolant pump solved the problem.

    If the inverter coolant pump motor is running, and you do not see fluid turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir, then you need to get the air out of the coolant loop. There is a bleed valve located in front of the inverter, visible when the large black plastic panel above the radiator is removed. Remove the inverter coolant reservoir cap. Connect a clear vinyl hose to the bleed valve and run the other end of the hose to the inverter coolant reservoir opening.

    Make the Prius READY and open the bleed valve. Watch the coolant rise in the vinyl hose. Let the coolant continue to flow until no air bubbles are visible, then close the bleed valve. Fill the inverter coolant reservoir to the MAX level with Toyota Super Long Life coolant. You should now be able to see fluid turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir when the Prius is READY.

    If you still have a problem, get Mini VCI so that you can retrieve the diagnostic trouble codes logged by your car.

    Good morning !
    Please I need your help to solve the problem of my Toyota Prius car in 2008. The car is cold while working well for a maximum time of 1 hour, the first symptom is to stop the air conditioner to cool, then turn on the light triangle warning, after driving a little longer for the vehicle and no more moves. If you wait until the vehicle returns to work for a few minutes to cool, then everything fails again with the same symptoms. And you change the battery 12 Volt, and you change the water pump hybrid system and I can not solve! Please I ask you to help me to run my car .... thank you very much!

    It really sounds like the inverter coolant pump either is not working or there is air in the system. Or the inverter is just deciding to fail after it heats up. You will need to figure out what the problem is, we cannot do that remotely.
