Intermittent problems always return

Intermittent problems are always the most difficult because the symptoms show up after the root cause that triggers them. It becomes difficult to find the triggering event. So too, a familiar entry has shown up to join my "Ignore User" list making me wonder, did they get kicked off some other forum?

My list had shrunk to: (1) one SPAMMER (who is now banned) and, (2) one chatty fellow. But a difficult person has returned with the same, poor posting habits that had put his account on my ignore list before. Hopefully, they will soon get bored and wander off to pester others.

One thing I've noticed is the use of Car and Driver as a reference. I am reminded of another Car and Driver story about a 'test drive' in the dead of winter on Interstates, in a blizzard, up hill, both ways, against the wind trying to find some advantage of a manual transmission Jetta versus a NHW20 Prius. That magazine and dentist paper stack is worse than Consumer Reports.

Well, if the problem went away, it wouldn't be intermittent. ;)

Sometimes our moderators encourage problem children to find another place to share their 'gifts.' Other times, they get on enough 'ignore user' lists that they realize posting has no effect. In error, they call it "censorship" and we call it "turning up the squelch" to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. <grins>

I think I've worked it out. It's not an intermittent bug; it's a feature.

Maybe he has had some special software installed which prevents his posts about diesel Jettas from reflecting that sort of behaviour when it detects that he is being monitored by testers, but which allows him to post that sort of thing when the software detects that he is not being monitored.

    Meh.

I've had to use the ignore user feature before, but not on this clown.
He/She at least doesn't usually clutter up threads with dizzying hockey stick graphs and piles of cut/copy/pasted bits of drivel....usually.... ;)

Whew, I thought Mr. Wilson might be talking about me....but I know nothing, nothing, about Jettas or diesel.... upload_2015-10-2_9-49-11.png

I have a couple of ignores, basically because they tend to be a bit on the nasty/offensive side to other posters.

I do wish, however, that Mr. Wilson would get back to talking about his dogs and his favorite taverns! :D

Sitting in the NOOK on Bob Wallace drinking Don Julio Blanco and planning to go to Guadalajara or the State store. State Store wins.

I thought you were a man with good taste! When I worked along the Mexican border I was spoiled by having easy access to good tequila (and bad) at cheap prices.

My son gave me a bottle of this last Halloween, I still have about 25 percent left. Not bad stuff, actually. Of course, the label is the thing:

Ugh, I don't lick the label, just the empty shot glass. The only problem are the chicks who follow me out the door . . .

Guys, don't start talking about good "adult beverages." Where I am at now, Grain Belt beer is considered the peak of perfection!

    And, Bill -- chicks....

Would that be Rhode Island Reds or the Norfolk Grey (O.K., I am not a FemNazi, and I know women in Iowa, at least don't mind "chicks", but in Oregon, that would get you some special -- and unwanted, attention).

Anyway, wish I was at the NOOK!

Ah but I'm an old dog and that won't hunt. Company is welcome and the first BMW i3 with range extender was in the parking lot one afternoon. The owner and I had a nice chat. Also another ZVW30 and the occasional plug-in shows up. The rare motorcycle will have three wheels and may tow a small trailer.

The Nook is smoke free; well lit; 500+ beers (sigh, I can look); classic rock and roll; and a good whiskey bar. The lady clients are within a decade of this 65 year old codger, a social drinking bar. Customers need an IQ > 120 to even find and enjoy the Nook. The service staff could be our adult children.

Think 'Cheers' with a Southern and Cajin twist.

    Bill:

I would be there in a heartbeat, if you could put up with a 30-ish, eco-freak, skinny woman without much of an attitude, other than I like my West Coast IPAs....but I could adjust to something Southern, I think. And, of course, who does not like tequila.

Huntsville is the biggest towns one would ever want to live in:
    • We have one, first class restaurant of every kind BUT someone has to tell you about them.
    • We give directions referencing places that have gone out of business and their bulldozed lot.
    • We never 'screw over a co-worker' because a few years from now you may have to interview with them.
    • Anything that falls from sky leads to pickup trucks on the shoulders, ditches, and flat-bed, tow trucks.
    • Every mile outside of Huntsville turns the clock back two years.
    • Moonshiner stills use surplus, stainless steel rocket tubing.

Moonshine with perchlorate from the tubing - that'll perk it up.

So, Bob, after some scary posts in another thread, other than Don Julio, any other tequila you like.

I always was a "Tres Generations" guy. Of course, when I was young it was Cuervo Gold or Cuervo 1800.

I do love tequila, which is why my wife does not allow it in the house. Yes, I am a bit hen-pecked, but, it does avoid those "mornings."

I am testing Avion and it seems a peer. Nice flavor and slightly less expensive in Alabama. So far, very consistent three bottles whereas Don Julio can vary. Not finding Avion at bars so a small sample set.

    A quick story -
Driving cross-country with a friend back in '81. Stopped at a gas station in Iowa and picked up two six-packs of Michelob (ugh, I know, beggars can't be choosers.) Back in the car, I popped one open and took a slug. Something wasn't right. I gave it to my friend, asked him to taste it. He made a funny face. Decided to read the label. It was 3.2% beer. Tasted like sh*t. Threw both six-packs in the garbage and headed for another state.

Cyber - I'm sure Iowa has it's plusses, but my condolences on your adult beverage choices.

Wait ... does everybody who makes a 'chicks' joke automatically get renamed Bill?
