The speculation was early in 2016?

yeah, no hard date. the thing is, the first shipments will probably be expensive, with limited availability. it's hard to predict. it depends on how much time and money you're willing to expend.

next spring/summer will probably be a good time to shop, but if you want to be one of the first, start working with a dealer now for allocation. you might get one later this year.

Heard it goes on sale in December in Japan. Will probably get to CA in January. Any later than that and Toyota ought to own up to fact it's a 7 year turn around for this new car (round 6 yrs 8 months + up to 7 years.)

Not just that, but for me, any later and may as well just release it as a 2017. Volvo skipped the 2015 model year totally for the new XC90 and just came out with the 2016 in May of 2015. (It was supposed to be out March 2015 as a 2016 but as is the industry it got delayed)

Anyways, as to the OPs question, nothing official exists at this time but I'd agree with the above. It's of course speculation as Toyota has released nothing official but with the reveal timing and all, January sounds bout' right to me.

We purchased our 2010 Prius in May 2009. It would make more sense to purchase a 2017 Prius and wait a couple of more months or so.
Better resale / trade in years down the road....

I heard from a local dealer in NoVa area that it was going to be November. I have a 2005 beater working well but am tempted to look forward to see its specs.

What I'd like to know is when one will be available to test drive and inspect. I test drove my 2004 on October 19, 2003, ordered one on October 21, 2003 but didn't get one until April 20, 2004.

Probably depends how long it takes to sell existing 2015. Typically dealers don't want to start receiving a new body style model until almost all the current inventory is sold.

Even 6 months back, our local dealership seems to have no Prius, of any description. Maybe one c.

I wonder if Toyota is going to do a staggered rollout, where some states, probably the ones that they sell the most Prius in, get them first, then other states get added until it's available nationwide.

Did they do that with the earlier Priuses? Or was it a nationwide rollout right off the bat?

Someone else may be able to give a more definitive answer but from what I remember, it was a nationwide rollout but of course it takes time for the cars that arrive on the west coast to be shipped across in cargo trains to the east coast.
