Just bought an '06 Package 3 with a few nice options added. Due to a dispute with the dealership on how the whole transaction took place, they have offered to install a Hands-Free phone with Bluetooth to the car free. The manager stated that "it would add a small screen and be fully integrated with the audio system" (mutes stereo during phone use). I am very attracted by this offer as I think they owe me something for what transpired and I see this phone add-on as having a few $$$ signs behind it. I would, of course, prefer that it would work thru the MFD, but I'll take what I can get. I really have no idea what brand or anything like that as I told them I would decide and let them know. Does anyone have anything like this installed? Where is the little screen mounted? Should I ask which brand they are installing and insist on a certain brand? Do these things work or they problematic? ANY info would be greatly appreciated!!
I had a Sony Ericsson bluetooth kit in my previous vehicle. It worked great... it had no display, but had a small controller with send, end, and volume up/down buttons which you'd put somewhere within easy reach. This is how you'd answer, end, and place calls. (on mine, holding send until the beep would activate the phone's voice dial, send answers calls, end hangs up, and volume does volumy things.) Since you could voice dial, you didn't really need the display. The only one I can think of right now with a display is the Parrot CK3100. The Parrot handsfree kits are nice, my mom has one in her MINI (an older one without the display).
Another thumbs up for the Parrot Bluetooth add-on. It works great, better than the Toyota unit for the Prius.
