Reverse beep turn off?

1. Name the dealer so that we know not to go to them because they try to rip off people.
2. Go to another dealer who will happily do the 3 minute job free of charge.

I'll start you off, Piercey Toyota in Milipitas, CA does it for free. Won't help you in DFW but hopefully local members in your area can point you in the right direction.

After two years? Mine is like a chorus of "safety angels" reminding me to be very careful.

 

I used my scangauge 2, but unless you want the other features it is not much cheaper than the dealer.

If you have an Android device and a OBDII to bluetooth dongle, then you can download Torque software for free.

I used an inexpensive OBDII usb dongle purchased off of eBay and my laptop. There's a long thread here on PriusChat with a file to upload that will automate the process of changing the setting.

 

Same thought here. Even with that whole dang chorus, still not always enough for me.

 

My local Toyota dealership did it at no cost. I didn't buy the car from them either. But I did let them give it a complete going over and diagnostic (which they charged for of course)when I bought it from Hertz car rental. If you take it to any Toyota dealership they should out of common courtesy just do that at no charge. You would think that they would try to make you a regular customer. But these days the dealerships don't seem too concerned about owner loyalty to them for service. But I'm sure there are still some dealers that would be willing to spend the 3 minutes it takes to change it to a single beep. And do it at no charge. Just check around. Or get some needed maintenance done at regular charge and ask since it's there already if they can turn off that VERY annoying beep!!!

 

Ive done it for free for a few members in IL and NJ so far. Bought the $20 OBD from Amazon and got the full paid version of the Carista app for my phone (price is justified by the user-friendly interface and program development). was LITERALLY a 10 second sync, then a slide switch on the phone. And whenever I'm done, everyone always says, "thats it?"... lol. But yes, that stealership is ripping you off BIG TIME, and should literally take 1 minute or less... and free-of-charge.

note: if you do decide to go the DIY route, dont get the cheap OBD, was a waste of $10 which just sits in my glove compartment.

 

Google the procedure. Lots of steps, but pretty simple. Managed mine on the first try.

Gen 2 was owner selectable, Gen 3 requires an OBDII programmer, not every owner owns one.

I'm answering this after 3 years just so that there is an answer Associated when someone does a search. For Gen 3 you can purchase an inexpensive, like $8, Bluetooth OBDII dongle. It will work with Prius Tweak which can be downloaded. Prius Tweak allows you to change the reverse beep and seat belt warnings.

 

If I was given a penny for every post on this forum that could have been answered by searching, I'd be a millionaire

 

I like it, even though it's super annoying. It's very "fun" when you're in reverse and go into drive and then end up flooring it in reverse because the POS shifter didn't shift into drive. So you then slam the brakes because the POS toyota brake assist and then slam the shifter into D again, nearly breaking it off, hoping the POS shifts this time, then listen for the sound, then take off normally. (R throttle is way different from D throttle?) ...Some of the things I hate about this car...

 

I can honestly say I've never had the shifter not do what I want it to do on my gen 2 or gen 3 prius.

The beep is annoying, but I guess it probably serves a bit of its safety purpose. I think a single beep would do the trick. I am not motivated enough to change it though.

 

I did change continous beeps with only one in reverse using Techstream, and I must say it's better.
When I change to R, beeps only one time...

 

I just did the full Dr. Prius battery test. Got to listen to more than 800 seconds of consecutive beeping.....It was hard but I am a stronger man for it.
