Injen performance intake for Prius C - review

thanks for all your help spyderx! i used WD40 today on the valve and it came right through.

got the install finished today!! i broke the two plastic clips on the air box while doing it because i thought they'd come off, but everything else was smooth.

question though - the crank case line doesn't seem to be really secure to the intake valve - would that potentially slip off? I saw that I could literally pull them apart even with the metal clip on it if I used enough force.

so my review of the injen. definitely louder than before - instead of a whiney motor sound, it has a more aggressive sound - i like it. the sound is definitely noticeable when you're flooring it.

in terms of more power, i do think there is more power at highway speeds. it's easier to get up to speed and in the 70s, i can accelerate quicker. it's like there's an extra push that wasn't there before. definitely worth it imo. you're definitely not going to notice a huge difference, but everything helps in this little car

 

he crank case line should be pushed up to the injen intake snokle pipe leaving about an inch. If its slipping w/ stock metal clip I'd secure it w/ a zip tie... Glad you're enjoying it!

 

What do you guys do about the intake in the rain? It's been pouring the past couple days and I get worried that some water may leak into it.

 

I worried about this too so I purchased this to keep the intake away from incoming rain:

However.. After using it and thinking about it, I don't believe the intake is close enough to the ground, much less enough water to pass through the radiator, to be any danger to the intake. The water filter is only $23 though, so I suppose $23 to purchase peace of mind isn't really THAT much.

 

Can anyone tell me the diameter of of the mass air flow housing? Is it 2 or 2.5inches.

Hey guys. Older thread, I know, but i'll be popping in the Injen short ram soon on my 2014 Prius C. Looking forward to the results in both slight power increase and possibly some increase in mpg.

Speaking of mpg...I read this thread since it started and you guys should reach out to Max Tawain. Type in the search "Red Bullet" and read the chats. It's lengthy and but good info. The part is a VVTI and replaced the OEM one in the car. It increases the HP and mpg. I installed mine and my power went up (not using ECO button) and my mpg went up from about 50-53mpg to 62-65mpg...and that's NOT using ECO. When this part is installed, don't use ECO button...I found that out through trial and error. ECO retards the engine performance to save fuel but this Red Bullet does a better job since the mechanics in it work faster than the OEM version. The part is cheaper than the Injen short ram and it's totally worth it in my eyes. Easy in and out install...plug and play too, no codes, just better efficiency of your car in power and mpg. Max is a nice guy and can answer any questions you have. Let him know I referred ya to him.

I'll post back here with my results after I get the Injen installed and let ya's know the results...if anyone is still following this thread. lol. Thanks for all the info everyone supplied regarding the short ram part and install....really helpful stuff!

 

Most likely will lose power

Engineers at Toyota designed air flow to travel a certain way with a particular mass density and mass flow rate. When you mess with that it tends to decrease in power, torque, and mpg.


Unless....the car can learn by itself

 

Will your probably right but this intake works differently then just a pipe and open filter element. Check out there site for more info. It's been test by me and few others. I used a scan gauge to test the 0-60 on the same day on the same stretch of road doing the test in both directions and knocked off a few milliseconds lol. A search would need to be done here but I want to say I hit 60 in 10.2s and stock was 10.6s.

 

Everywhere I see this intake on the internet they list it for model years 2013-2015 Prius c. Why is 2012 not included in the range? I assume it does fit a 2012, right?

3 days is hardly enough elapsed time to show and improvement/decrease in mpg's due to more grounding. You want to prove to people this is giving your more mpg's, you're going to need to document your fill-up's, mileage driven.

 

I am going to pull my "cynical old man" card, because I just can't see how tinkering with a vital part of a meticulously designed and carefully built engine is going to improve any significant operational parameter without affecting another, perhaps even more critical parameter.

 

I've seen a few cars gain both performance and MPG by cleaning & improving a few grounds underhood.

I want to be perfectly clear though: this was not new, additional performance. This is performance that had been lost over 10+ years due to oxidation and corrosion of connectors and conductors. Think Northeast salt bath cars.

In finer detail, the cases I observed related to sloppy shifting in the automatic transmission; poor conductance through the ground strap was contributing to delayed action in the solenoids in the valve body. Car can't hit its programmed shift points? Bad acceleration & MPG result.

 

Wow...that was a slightly painful video to watch...lol. I think more time was given to fashion shooting his fingers turning a screw than details on the wiring. Lol. I do love his contradictions though when he doesn't care if the car blows up to being scared he did something to the car towards end of vid. Lol.
Btw...are those 2 lonely cheespuffs i see just sitting in the tray at beginning of vid?

Perhaps I'll give this a try when the nicer weather comes to town.
