Always wanted a Prius, but was happy with our Corolla. Longtime lurker. Friend recently sold me his well maintained 2010 Prius II for $10,000. 48k on the odometer and mechanic said internals looked great. Getting about 45 mpg, but we drive freeway mostly in our work commute. Looking for some upgrades and want to do an HID retrofit, backup camera, and possible hard wire dash cam.
Give those HID's a bit of extra thought. I have them on my 2004 and my '05 Odyssey with halogens actually has better reach and illumination, albeit, not as "white". And you will in one swell foop change a twelve dollar maintenance item into a hundred dollar one.
Welcome CaJoe: Getting about 45 mpg We have a 2010 with 120,000 miles and we consistently get 50-55 mpg (in the Summer) here in cold Minnesota.
That's probably because your Odyssey has better projection units (possibly projectors) than your 04 reflector-based HID system (which are not as efficient). Projection systems aside, an HID bulb puts out nearly or more than twice as much light than a conventional halogen bulb and uses less power. In short, the halogen system in the Prius is already pretty good. If you want an upgrade though, I recommend a good retrofit kit. If you don't want to spend $500 on a full Lexus system like I did, you can still do a bolt on system using pretty good aftermarket parts for $150-ish i think. Whatever you guys do, do not just plug and play an HID kit into your stock Halogen projectors. That's a huge downgrade despite how "cool" they appear from the outside.
