No image no response to the buttons that have green leds glowing no obstruction in HUD output area appears broken, so have the 8 year 100000 Warranty,I would expect that to be covered, thoughts on the bullet proof prius?
Why do you say that? What other common problems tend to occur? I have the platinum, I think that's what it's called, warranty that will cover this and any part failure beyond the hybrid drive train components covered by the state required warranty
excellent. don't mind bfd, he's just yanking your chain. pip has no problems. okay, yours is the first, good thing you bought the warranty. let us know how it goes!
I was just kidding - a little. While PiP is a little young to be showing problems, its electronics are so highly integrated that if one subsystem goes…it's a real problem with the rest of the system, and it's not covered on Toyota's dime after 3/36. So it's almost a necessity to have a longer-term warranty just for the electronics problems that could eventually happen. They're expensive to repair.
I haven't as yet taken PiP in for repair, will do next week likely. Because of this (2012) is the first year, I insisted on the warranty. The owners manual was of no help.
Of course this is covered with the Platinum extended service plan. Pretty much whatever's covered in the bumper-to-bumper warranty is covered under this.
I dropped off the PIP last evening for HUD repair, the service writer had never seen a problem with one. When I asked about any other problems seen with the Prius he shared a women came in with a bad hybrid battery (2003 Prius) and the replacement cost was $4000.She decided to buy a new Prius instead
Yup, they're usually rock solid. The only thing my 2005 Prius has needed in 200k+ miles is one battery module, which I replaced myself in ~4 hours. My old toyota pick is probably more durable and can take more abuse, but even it's not as reliable as my Prius.
I just got a call from the Toyota car dealership who told me they need to keep the car over the weekend until next week to fix the heads up display. They have to take the dashboard apart and wanted my permission to do so because it would keep the car there over the weekend. He the service advisor said they've never had to fix one of these before. They have to remove enough of the dashboard to inspect and test the different control units of the car. It's a much more complex endeavor than one would realize including the service personnel. Fortunately have the extended warranty that will cover a repair that's likely to be the same cost as that warranty, agree?
wouldn't surprise me. my wife's hycam had the blind spot system stopped working last year. they wanted us to leave it for a whole day. haven't bothered, but at $120./hour or whatever, it adds up fast!
Heard from the dealership, the HUD computer module went bad and they are waiting for a part. The cost of this repair is north of $1200, covered under extended warranty which just got paid for.
New part came in computer module for HUD. Cost over $300. and Toyota wanted the part sent back, labor to remove and replace $1200 all covered under extended warranty. It took a week to get the part, I'll pick up Tuesday. They tested the part with dash off and found it worked.
