<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mystery Squid @ Apr 13 2006, 04:20 PM) </div> Just checked the first page of "View new posts". 9 are in FHOP's, 17 are not. My basic math says that's over 50%. I'm not opposed to FHOP, just want an easy way to filter out the chaff. I visit this site to learn more about the Prius, not what color panties are in vogue.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Begreen @ Apr 13 2006, 11:05 PM) </div> Green.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galaxee @ Apr 13 2006, 07:11 PM) </div> Of course it is. That said, Danny has solicited suggestions for improving the users' experience on this site and has never, that I recall, objected to this popular suggestion.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Begreen @ Apr 13 2006, 08:05 PM) </div> If 9 are in Fred's and 17 are not, then there is a total of 26 new posts. Nine divided into 26 is 34.6% or approximately one third.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny @ Apr 12 2006, 11:32 AM) </div> This suggested approach still doesn't work. Any idea when you'll be adding the "Exclude Forum from View New Posts" feature?
I think that the approach of priuschat is pretty good. Having the FHOP forum allows community based non-prius talk to continue. Also acts as a kind of pressure release valve on the rest of the site, so that the rest of the site can be more Prius-focused. That said... If I click on "View new posts" and have to see another Poll about religion, drunk driving, evolution, Hating Bush, Loving Bush, etc... I'm going to go crazy. I would LOVE an exclude forum feature... (I'm going off to try the "mark as read" feature)
He hasn't actually come out and said so but, based on various comments by him and the moderators, I think Danny really does not want this feature to be available on PriusChat. I would be happy to be told I'm wrong about this.
Believe me, if I knew anyway to actually do this, I would implement it. I've got a couple of programmers looking into it and in the meantime I'm looking into other alternatives as well. My personal feeling is that I don't want any forums to be ignored - but this site is run by the community and I try to achieve what the community requests.
Chalk me up as a vote to figure something out. I really appreciate Danny's commitment to free speach and an open community on this board! I got sucked in to Fred's house of Pancakes this morning, and after 2 hours of reading, I'm sincerely depressed about the state of the world and feel despair for humanity. I've got to take a short break from PC for a while, and remember to change my bookmarks to point to select forums. However, I can take care of that myself, and the inconvenience is well worth not having an outright censored board. In the meantime, I hope that Danny's team comes up with some cool new information management solutions, perhaps ones that wind up improving the state of lots of discussion boards all over the net! Cheers, Dave

(Although I do give myself partial credit for correctly discerning your personal feelings on it.) As a professional programmer, I am surprised that ignoring a forum can be more difficult than ignoring a member but I have no idea what the code looks like. Best of luck to your programmers in figuring out how to do this.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(koa @ Apr 12 2006, 08:36 PM) </div> Hey..we have a spellcheeeecker now?
Ok, here's a half-way fix all of the FHOP haters out there. There are now TWO View New Posts links: One says View All New Posts and the other says View New Posts. The View New Posts link will have a javascript drop-down menu that will let you choose which forums you want to search for new posts in. You CAN click the Category Titles (like Toyota Prius Forums) and that will search all forums within that category, OR you can Ctrl-Click the forums that you want to view new posts in. Hopefully that's a good middleground solution for now.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny @ Apr 26 2006, 12:26 PM) </div> Works slick. Thanks for the change.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny @ Apr 26 2006, 01:26 PM) </div> Awesome! Great work Danny! Dave
What's the query like that's behind the listbox? 'All' or 'one' would be my guess for the current queries, but logic for 'all but Fred' would please the most people. Probably would need to be the first entry,too...
Nice! That's more than fancy enough for me. Now I can just bookmark my "new stuff I care about" search. Thanks a lot, Danny! -Carl
