Dealer BS-Says Scratched MFD is Oxidation

This is more a rant than a problem, but would love to hear if anyone has heard of a MFD suddenly turning scratched up in neat diagonal lines due to Oxidation. I've been searching online and have not been able to find anyone complain about oxidation problem.

So the dealership had my 06 for 2 weeks while they bickered with corporate over how much I was going to pay for hybrid battery replacement (dealer refused to give any assistance but corporate got me a good price). Got the car back with a clean interior but foggy MFD like product hadn't been completely wiped off. They had detailing look at it and said screen was ruined service said they'd order a used one and replace it. Next day service department wanted the car back to try and fix it again. After a few hours they called and said they don't have any products that would have damaged the screen (only have soap, water, windex and one other product in the detailing department) it was caused by oxidation and were not going to replace it.

I got the Gen. Manager to agree to replace it with a used unit but had to listen to him tell me my car was "at the end of it's usable life" and cryptically warn me of safety features that would go bad...

So has anyone heard of sudden screen oxidation?

 

I got the impression from the GM that my car is not welcome at their service center again. But you're right I wasn't planning on bringing it back.
I've searched the internet for hours and can't find anyone with screen oxidation.

 

Thanks I'll PM him. Duct tape would match the pattern but they would have had to put it down in one direction then the other to get that cross hatch pattern (we clean the screen horizontal with a clean microfiber cloth only so the pattern can't be from our regular cleaning). If you look at the bottom of the screen you can see where it isn't as scratched/hazy also if you look at the top right you can see part of a fingerprint etched in as well. Maybe it wasn't something in detailing maybe it was a dirty rag in the service are from when they worked on the battery.

 

Dealer replaced the screen yesterday with a used one. It looks pretty nice with a few scratches but overall OK they managed to scratch up the outside of the casing but I expected that from them. I asked to keep/ see the old parts and they refused so I'm left with some questions. I was surprised all my mpg miles traveled on that tank of gas info, radio stations and navigation history are still intact. They initially said the entire unit had to be replaced and it was going to cost me $1,500 for parts so I expected the info to have been removed with the unit.

Invoice says Replaced monitor part from LKQ. I looked it up and LKQ has an Info-GPS-Tv Screen for 06 used for $350 but no picture of what exactly the part is.

I'm wondering if they wouldn't show me or let me keep the part is because they replaced only the monitor after telling me I had to replace the entire unit. Did they miraculously find a way to replace just the monitor once it was determined that they were going to pay for it?

Also noticed they gave me on 90 day warranty on parts and none on labor where LKQ gave them 6 months.

I'm happy to be done with these people but really would like to understand exactly what was replaced on my car.

 

I'm not complaining about the outcome and have no desire to talk to the dealership again. It cost me nothing and the screen is in about the same condition as when I brought it to them for the battery replacement so that's fair. They added some scratches to the console but it's a 9 year old car and while I notice them, no one else will and could be from it being older plastic.

I really do however want to understand what was replaced (what part or parts are covered under the 90 day warranty). If they replaced just the screen it's fine but when they thought I was going to pay for it they said the only option available was to replace the entire unit and if they replaced the entire unit how could my history be on the new one?
