I am getting a "Door Open" Light on my dash, and can not Lock my car from the remote.

I have a Door Open light on my dash, and I checked all the plungers on each the doors. I am guessing it is because of my rear hatch not being shown as closed. What tells the rear hatch that it is closed, and where is it located? I am looking to find it and take it apart to check it out for any damage, so that the Door light will turn of and hence allow me to lock my car with my remote again.

So something in the hatch area is telling my car that the hatch is open, but i cannot figure out where to start.. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have done this. I have inspected the lock area, and tried cleaning it some, etc, but it looks like, and i could be wrong, somebody in the past has pulled on the lever too hard, and had fixed it... how i dont know. but this problem is getting old, and always have to push the lock button to lock the door..

Is it difficult to get in there and maybe take it apart with tools, and figure out the situation. I know my way around elecronics, so i am guessing some sort of broken piece of equipment that is causing this. Has anyone ever disassembled the hatch area on the hatch door itself, or on the car itself, and might now what i should look for?

 

Hey guys, Good news! I fixed the problem! To recap... The Car was saying there was a door open, and therefore i couldnt use my remote! So as per the suggested advice about maybe having something stuck in the slot where the hatch closes in the back, I went and checked again with a flashlight and found two random loose screws and a little piece of metal, all of which managed to find their way in there! So i got out some pliers and remoted the 2 screws and the piece of metal, and TA-DA! It works now! Thanks so much guys for all of your suggestions.

Ha, thats what I thought, but they don't seem to be from the car, they were most likely from when my brother in law borrowed the car, and had a tool box in there with a bunch of misc screws and stuff in it. I am so glad it was something so simple as well, because its great to be able to use the lock and unlock, as well as the proximity feature to open the doors etc. I have a check engine light on now though, and need to take it to toyota this week. I would like to find out the best cheapest way to find out which codes its throwing, so i can look them up myself. I remember on my old GM cars, you could use a paper clip to check which codes it was.

Does anyone happen to know the easiest way to find out what codes are?

 

Good idea! Especially in my case.... I wish i could say i live close to Advanced Auto Parts, but that would be an overstatement, because when i open my back door, their store is directly in front of my condo. If i walk out my door, I could be in their front door in about 20 seconds flat. It has come in handy when you need parts or happen to need a quick cheap tool.
