The paint faded on the rear spoiler of our 2007 Prius. When I called Toyota customer service in Torrance California to report this problem they said that if it doesn't happen within the first 36,000 miles then it is outside the warranty period and there is nothing that they can do UNLESS a lot of people are having the same problem AND report the problem to Toyota and get case numbers. Then once Toyota has a "sufficient" number of such complaints they would consider doing something about it. IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM PLEASE REPORT IT TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 800-331-4331 and also let me know so that I can keep track of how many people are experiencing the same problem that we are and then I will let Toyota know the next time that I call them. Thank your for your help

My friend has a 2009 and my 2008 is also experiencing what you are describing. 2009 is silver, 2008 is red......I plan on buying touchup spray paint and clear coat to fix mine. Toyota won't do anything for this spoiler.

So far I am not seeing a problem but mine spends most of its time in the garage.

The spoiler paint is a problem with both of my Prius: 2004 Tideland Pearl and 2007 Silver Pine Mica colors.

Spoiler paint is problematic on many cars.
Its the first place that fades.
Had 2 Nissan's that did it.

Got to keep up the wax.

Your car is 7 years old and in one more week it will be 8 years old. Do you really think Toyota should be responsible for faded paint on a car of this age? I think this is an unfair complaint to Toyota or any car manufacture. Paint starts to fade from day one and if you don't take care of the paint with regular washing and waxing it will fade even faster. Maybe you can get a cost to recondition/paint the wing it can not be that much?

The paint on my rear spoiler and the door handles is fading and flaking off. It began when the car was about 3 years old, but the dealer said they wouldn't repair it since the problem wasn't "mechanical." (FYI orenji: Yes, I DO think Toyota is responsible since it's happening to many of these Priuses....and I DO take care of my car by washing it weekly and waxing it every 3 months.)

must be something to do with the sun and the loss of the ozone layer. in a way, they are partially responsible for selling sequoia's and tundra's.

I too had that problem but only on the spoiler (top surface).

I took a wide tape, pressing hard and then jerking it off, repeatedly until none of the clear coat came off. I then masked the rear glass and applied about 3 light coats of polyurethane.

I'm sure to get flak about this but it sure looks better than the white discoloration. Besides it's on top and really is not noticeable. Been about 8 months now.

Not sure what Prius you see that have the problems like you say you are having. Every time I see a Gen II, I am amazed how great they look, and the paint being shinny and new looking still. My 2012 still looks new and I do wash it weekly as well.
