I played around with my parent's online account just right now. I added my car and checked me off as insured. I was already on there as excluded but my birth year was wrong and states I am 20 opposed to 23. It just doesn't allow me to edit that part of the information online. Their insurance is a yearly premium and with me added, it increased by $1,237.00, which averages out to $103.08. This is a huge significant difference from having my own policy. I'll have to call in on Monday and see if there would be a difference from 20 to 23. Also if they could include the good student discount. I worked hard for my 3.92 GPA, so hopefully it saves me some money. But I would still be satisfied with $103 a month. Hopefully this works out. Thank you all so much!
the best thing to do is talk to your parents insurance agent if you're going to go this route. thell them your situation, and ask what you need to do to be eligible to be added to their policy. and keep your parents in the loop.
Listen to bisco. In general, you'll want to play the student card for as long as you can as it should save some money. Ask the agent to run through the list of discounts. Even if the age as listed on the policy doesn't affect the pricing you do want incorrect info fixed. A dorm is not a permanent address. You should be registered to vote in your parents' district.
Well like I said my address right now is my apartment. But come the 19th, I won't have a permanent address anymore.
