I first noticed this issue a few weeks ago at a do-it-yourself car wash. There must have been a loose edge of a paint chip that I proceeded to blow off, resulting in the smaller of the two chips in the pictures. I've been washing the car in my driveway since then, just using a hose with a moderate pressure. Well, today, I made that previous chip a little bigger, as seen in the other pic. The piece that came off is in my hand in the third pic. At the rate I'm going, I won't have any paint left on this car in another year. I'm pretty sure the fender is made of plastic, but paint should still adhere to it. Other than not washing my car anymore, any ideas for how to best fix the damage done and also prevent further damage? It's a couple of inches, so it's too big to deal with with a bottle of touch-up paint. And frankly, I wouldn't trust myself doing it that way anyway? Am I looking at having to go to a body shop? BTW, as some of you may know, it's a 2012 that I bought used so I can't exactly go back to a dealer and expect any kind of warranty repair. Thanks for your thoughts.
i would take it to an auto body shoppe for evaluation. if it's just mechanical damage, i would sant the bare metal shiny, feather the edges, hit it with a heat gun to make sure its dry, and pick up some repair paint from the dealer. if there's something wrong with the paint, let us know the body shoppes recommendation.
the car should have a warranty on the paintwork.....unless of course it's been repainted after an accident
I have a 2005 with a couple of paint scrapes and they are black underneath. Check on Automotive Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch - Order Pro Grade Paint - PaintScratch.com for touchup paints. They have complete kits in factory colors. SM-G900H ?
Never heard of black primer. The primer was white on my 2006. I have no idea of what they are using on a c.
if you want it done right, you would need to take off all that paint and repaint it. Whoever did the paintwork (not original), took a shortcut.
That car has been in an accident. It should never be black underneath the paint. That looks like a non-OEM Toyota part. Also, it that is the plastic/rubbery part of the bumper, the paint should flex and stay on the bumper. iPhone ?
