Hey guys, I recently leased a 2015 Prius C and was wondering if the windows blocked out a percentage of the UV rays. I have some issues with my skin after long sun exposure and was wondering if the stock glass does the job already or if I should get some tints installed.

congrats and welcome! idk, does tinting block uv? i use a sunshade on the door window, but i dk if that blocks uv either. i do know the prius greenhouse design makes it impossible to escape the sun. i'll be interested to see if anyone knows. all the best!(y)

My understanding the side glass does block out 100% of UV and so does the front.

Look at the small print on the glass. Not all windshields are the same....and the majority of them offer up no protection at all. Toyota does promote the fact that the windshield on it's prius models block all UV rays.

Not sure what you are confused by? Most windshields offer very little protection, but in 2011 TOYOTA started offering glass with 99% blockage of UV Rays.

Not sure when TOYOTA started to offer protection on the front windshield for the Prius, but in 2011 they started to offer 99% UV protection on the side glass on all Toyotas.

Where you getting this info? US Prius C does not use green or gray tint. US model glass blocks out 99% of all UV.

We Taiwan's Prius C has minor green color window; however, only four windows and rear windshield have UV mark on it; front windshield doesn't have. So we are also curious if front windshield has UV block function or not, though some people said front windshield is laminated, it originally has UV block function.

I understand that but for my case, I drive 30,000 miles per year. I really want to confirm this information is accurate. I have called Toyota several times, spoken to nearly 10 dealerships, and even have a field tech looking into this question and they still haven't found this graphic. I was wondering where it came from so I could confirm the authenticity with Toyota and whether it applies to my 2012 model Prius C.

I really appreciate your post and your response. Had you guys not provided this, I would have no way to show that there is UV protection on the windows and find myself paying for tints I don't need. That said, my health depends on having a verifiable answer to this question of where this information is located given that I spend on average 4-6 hours per day in my car during peak sunlight hours. I'd like to be able to confirm this information with Toyota.

Thank you in advance. I truly appreciate the time you are taking entertaining such an old post.

BTW, I found out where that image comes from. It is pulled from the "New Car Features" section (NCF) on the Technical Information System for Toyota vehicles.

Toyota looked it up and verified this was accurate. The image posted by vincent1449p is correct. They stated that the numbers for the green glass were the correct numbers.

uv protection is important to everyone who is intent on reducing the possibility of skin cancer, and even more important to those with history or weakened immune systems. if this data is true, toyota should be working with an official agency to promote the benefits.

keep in mind, there are uva and uvb rays. b cause sunburn, and a cause cancer.

I am glad the OP asked this question.

"Combined with UV-reducing windscreens, the use of the new front-door glass will result in an approximate 99 per cent reduction in overall UV penetration through the front-door windows and windscreen. Toyota estimates that the resulting sunburn protection is equivalent to that of wearing gloves while driving.

Windscreens, which use laminated glass, reduce UV by approximately 99 per cent through the use of a UV-blocking film between two sheets of glass in the laminating process. Door windows, however, generally use single-piece tempered glass that is often instilled with UV-absorbing material to achieve approximately 89 per cent UV protection." Motorward.com
