Get the HV battery from Toyota, say that you got a new Persona. Fix the AC. Then market your vehicle for $6000. If they offer $5000, take it. (For Sale: 2006 Prius- New AC, New HV Battery, low mileage, Michelin Defenders, one owner $6000 obo Call xxx-xxx-xxxx). See what develops.JTM

Judging from what Beachbumm and OP said, he way not have the 2000+ dollars to repair the car and then sell it. Someone is going to profit nicely --- probably the dealer.

Agreed SageBrush. Just DON'T want to see him give it away.

I don't know anything about A/C repairs but some are not cheap.
He may do better by trying to sell the car here on PC. We at least know a bargain Prius when we see it.

I do know about A/C repairs. Some are easy, others not so much. New compressor is easily over a grand plus labor. But, think about it. Would you buy a Prius with no A/C? Only in Alaska or Hawaii.

That was my point actually. His profit from fixing the car and selling is uncertain until he knows the A/C repair cost.

I don't know about Alaska, but A/C certainly is required in Hawaii especially with the high humidity level.

According to my wife, you really don't need it there. And for years you could do the heater delete in Hawaii. Now, could you do without A/C in Alaska? J/K ok

Are they replacing the compressor? Did they give you an itemized list? Just wondering what cost so much, other than the compressor.

That was for replacing the AC evaporator. I don't have the itemized list in front of me.

Then that would be reasonable. You're the first person I have heard of getting an evaporator. I hope this is not a trend.

Maybe I should check with the dealer again if that's an unusual repair

I would, what do you have to lose but time and money. March, is your car still under warranty?

Darn, I would get a second opinion. Did they dye the system? Fluorescent dye can "prove" where the leak may be.

I find it unusual that here on Prius Chat, to my knowledge, I have heard of compressor failure but no evaporator failure.

Be careful, March. Misdiagnosed problems are out there. Let us know and good luck. Stay cool! If you can...
