About the same thing happened to me. I was driving down a 1-lane residential road and a woman was pushing a stroller, the stroller was much louder than my car so I followed her for a good 2 blocks before she let me pass.

I found just the solution. It may make them soil themselves, but atleast they won't get hit by your car...

I find my solution a lot better. I un-plugged the hose that connects to the nozzles on my intercooler sprayer and re-routed a hose out the bumper (on a Lancer Evolution). Just push the button and it will shoot a stream over 15 feet in the air with a distance of like 10-15 feet (depends how you aim it). The funniest part is when they look over to find a person with a squirtgun that isn't there! :lol:

Yes, and it's also a waste of wiper washer fluid after you have to clean the windshield.

 

Points rated for difficulty.

Senior Citizen - 15pts deduct 5 pts for cane, ten points for walker. You get 0 points for wheel chair. Scooters don't count as that's a "vehicle".

Children - 2-3 yrs old 5 pts
3-6 yrs old 10 pts
7-10 yrs old 15 pts
10-12 yrs old 20 pts

Teenager 30 points, add 10 points if on rollerblades, deduct 10 points if listening to iPod.

Man- with briefcase in suit - 35 pts
jogger - 45 pts

Women- 30 pts deduct 5 pt for each shopping bag
Women with stroller -25 pts

Dog - 50 pts
Cat 75 pts

Deduct 10 points for anyone talking on a cell phone.

 

that's what the volume buttons on the steering wheel and the auto window down buttons are for

people may be irritated with you for playing your loud music, but at least they'll know you're there. what else do you want me to do? honk at you from 3 feet back as you're wandering all over the aisle in the parking lot and give you a heart attack?

Thats why I would like to know if anyone has installed one yet on their Prius. I would like to know if the car can handel a horn like that. Is there any place to keep the compresser/air tank out of sight? stuff like that.

I have spooked some people at the gas station by creaping up on them. Adding a horn like that would be icing on the cake. Plus it would be a big suprise when that truck/SUV/Hummer cuts me off.

I spend most of my transportation time on a bicycle. Most of my driving time is in an EV. I'm used to nobody ever hearing me coming, so nothing surprises me any more, and it is just all part of a normal day. I just assume I'm totally invisible, and everything works out fine.

My mom (who KNOWS that I drive EVs and bicycles, btw) thinks that hybrids are dangerous because she's afraid of being run over. She's read about these dangers, you see. There's just no convincing her that cars don't just "come out of nowhere." If you're aware, you can avoid them pretty well. But no... it is our fault. Us and these damn quiet cars.

In most states, blind people using a cane ALWAYS have right of way. PERIOD. Regardless of stoplight color.

 

That not funny. Almost a year ago, I was hit by a car. actually it was one of these:



A Hyundai Tucson

35 MPH + when I was running, and hit head-on, flew about 50 feet, dented the hood, and somehow managed to walk away.

The driver was blind in one eye (and dyslexic, but I do not see how that affects driving ability) and claims that I jumped out in front of him.

PAY ATTENTION.

 

Be nice to have a button that would gently go "meep meep" like the Roadrunner cartoon. For backwards, it would be "peem peem", or perhaps "'scuse me" in a HAL sort of voice.

The EV1 actually had this feature. You pulled the turn signal stalk (On the Toyotas this gives high beam) and it would softly meep for this very reason. It also had a reverse chime.

My pet peeve is people who walk in the middle of the lane in parking lots, instead of walking either to the far right or far left near the cars. I agree pedestians have the right of way in this situation but get to one side. It is safer for all involved.

Yesterday as I was leaving the grocery store parking lot, I followed a woman with 2 kids running around. When the kids were 1 foot from my front bumper, I finally beeped. Granted, I was only going 5 mph, but the kids were running everywhere. I don't think driving in the Prius was the problem. When I past them, she yelled at ME, not the kids.

 

A friend of mine recently stepped off of a curb in front of my car as I was coming into work. Fortunately, I saw him in time. He's an engineer, so he was probably in a fog anyway

How many times did your mother tell you, "LOOK both ways before crossing!"?
There was an article suggesting that hybrids are not safe on the streets for this very reason, but come on, if you are in a parking lot or anywhere in public, why wouldn't you look before you jump out?

What I enjoy is when it's a bunch of teens trying to look "bad" with their sagging jeans etc and then they look dumb jumping 5 feet in the air when they see princess coming at 'em haha



Actually, this scene was just shown in "Failure To Launch"- I just saw that this weekend... this guys friends were driving their Prius down a road, and the friend didn't hear it coming and he walked right into it- I was rolling on the floor!

Have not hit anyone (have had the Prius 5 days) but I did have one of those eye-opening experiences just a little earlier. I was gliding down the street on battery power and watching a kid on a bicycle up in front of me. Now I always watch kids on bikes because they tend to do stupid things sometimes. But suddenly it occurred to me... this ain't Kansas no more. Its not just that the kid may do something dumb. The kid doesn't even know that I there sneaking up behind him. Gonna have to watch doubly hard.
