Hi there! I'm Karl, known on various car forums as "Dodge Aries K" or "K-car Karl." Yes, after the 1980's Chrysler Front Wheel Drive K platform vehicles, which I've had over 200 variants of. Unfortunately, rust has killed many of my favorite machines so I had to find a new platform for everyday use. I tried Neons and liked them, Subarus and hated them, a few Volvos, various Caravans/Voyagers, a couple Camry's that I absolutely loved, and some other random stuff. I ended up developing some health problems with my back which necessitated vehicles with a more "chair like" sitting position so I ended up selling my last Neon to get a Toyota Echo which is an absolutely fantastic car. We also bought a used 2008 Prius Level 5 (the blue one) as our reliable family transportation. After starting to drive for Uber, my wife was a bit upset that I kept using our family car to shuttle drunk people around in so the Echo was sold to my father and the silver 2008 Prius Level 2 (I think?) was purchased. Anyway, long story short... I used to really hate the Prius, thinking it was a useless eco thing that made no sense but boy was I wrong haha. What a great, useful, and practical transportation machine these turned out to be. The blue one is super nice with the leather interior and I'm very fond of the idea of a smaller "luxury" type car. My silver one... ehh... it's more basic but it's a good work car. I sort of added the homelink autodim mirror to it and am on the search for a leather interior to swap into it and then it'll be good for my needs. Thanks for reading this boring crap and having me here!
Welcome to PriusChat! WOW there are fans out there for every type of car built. You are the first K car fan that I know of! Not sure how you can hate Subaru's?. Glad you have found out about the Prius, as they are cool!
Well, I made the mistake of buying a WRX and an SVX. What worthless garbage both of those were... Always broken, way too expensive parts, and lackluster everything. There is actually a pretty big following for the K cars now especially their Shelby and Shelby inspired siblings. The convertible below is my baby... it's a 1983 Dodge 400 convertible with only 74,000 miles. I won it in an auction for charity for a steal especially since it was a one owner car before I got it!
Welcome...I had 4 Caravans, one still got one. Makes sense to me to have one high MPG car and a hauler when you gotta haul.
Sorry you did not like your Subaru's. I have owned several, and all have been very reliable. Last one was a Forester. You are correct on the cost of parts and service, they are expensive. Nice looking converitable one you got there!
Thanks everyone. Finally used the silver car for it's intended purpose... seems that it likes being a taxi haha. Now if I can just find a wrecked one to harvest the seats and steering wheel out of. Not too fond of the cloth or... whatever material that is...
