If you locked your keys in your car, I'm pretty sure that means you pressed a button on the fob to lock it. The car won't let you lock the keys in by touching the doorknob. So... not sure what's going on here.

You pressed the lock/unlock button on the "inside" of the car right? Not on the lock on door handle "outside" the car.

You should always do it from outside the car....that would've prevented this from happening.

Your laptop case is shielding the signal of the fob, allowing the car to lock.

You should get the spare fob or have someone break in with a metal hanger or something. I don't like the hanger option as it could damage the moldings/window stripping on the car.

Toyota should have 3 years free roadside assistance on the PIP, call them to get you out. Maybe they'll send a locksmith that's more gentle

That's the immobilizer. It blinks when it can't detect a key

I would make sure you did not drop the key in the Doctor's office somewhere.

    AAA?

Do you have roadside assistance with your insurance? Or as stated above through Toyota?

Solved! JC91006 nailed it by recommending Toyota Roadside Assistance. They came out in 30 minutes and used very specific tools to unlock the car without damaging the molding or scratching the paint.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance and suggestions! My phone ran out of charge shortly after I placed the call, so very glad to have received the advice when I did.

While I am glad that the OP got a quick response to their plea for help, I wonder if he understands that this is not a real-time chat room, and they cannot in general expect responses in a matter of minutes. Responses tend to dribble in over days, as forum participants get around to looking at posts.

Nah. He got his responses quick it seems and it all worked out.

12 responses within an hr and a half is pretty good ;) we take care of our own over here! :)

I would suggest that he invest in second key fob though to keep at home or with his significant other who can run it over to him if needed.

Or even wrapped in tinfoil in a magnetic case under the car somewhere.

or in your laptop case, who knew? amazing the contortions surfers and others have gone through, unsuccessfully, to lock their fob in the car, and we've had two 'accidentals' in a week or so.

Yeah. Lol. Outside the car or in someone else's possession is preferable. Haha!!

Just take the metal key out of fob? Not sure how practical that is tho.
