USA - LRR Tires for replacement

On our 2010 Prius I keep all 4 tires at max sidewall pressure of 44 PSI. I am on our
2nd set of Michelin Energy Saver AS tires and the last set far exceeded 65,000 miles with perfect
wear. No sway on the highway from squishy tires.

 

I am currently looking for new tires. I am in Florida and have been getting 49-52mpg on my Ecopia 20's but the wear fast (at least with my driving) 32k miles in I def. need 2 front tires but will replace all.

I can't find the Michelin Energy Savers A/S in stock anywhere. So not sure if I should go with them or the Bridgestone 422s they are trying to sell me.

 

I would try two new Ecopia ep 20,s on the front. Tires we purchase generally last longer than the tires that come with the car. Ecopia tires are available at walmart and energy savers can be had at Costco if they are available. H

 

I've got Ecopia EP20 at Costco, a couple of times now. Last time they tried to steer me to EP422, which they had in stock, I'd assume. I stuck with EP20, since they're a known qty for me, and it took maybe a week for them to come in. If it was any size but 195/65R15 (EP20 only comes in that size) I'd have no qualms to try the EP422 Plus.

 

Posting so I can keep an eye on this for when I need new tires.

 

Sounds like a good idea I'll justget 2 new ones for now and go from there EP20.

What size should I be looking for. I have snow tires on my 2010 Prius III now, really need to get a summer set of tires. It has the stock 15 inch rims.

 

Also I just checked with Tire Rack, it looks like Michellin is back ordered on these tires nation wide, and Tire Rack's notes state that Michellin said that they haven't started the next production run in our size. The guy on the phone estimated a looooong wait, maybe upwards of 60-90 days before our size is back in stock.

So that being said what is the next best thing?

 

I would go with Ecopia ep 20. I have tried them all and find these give me the best all around performance. Good luck with whatever you try. H

Michelin Energy Saver AS with about 15,000 miles on them. Since they've broken in I'm consistently pulling in 51+ MPG tanks. Even trying my best to hypermile I was only able to get better than 50MPG on the Ecopia EP20s 12 times out of 130 tanks reported to fuelly. These Michelins are amazing.

 

I wonder if there's some technical reason they can't make energy saver in 215/45R17? I even emailed them; they said nope, and suggested premiers.

I might just go with their suggestion (when the time comes, no rush): premiers seem sort of the goldilocks choice.

 

Good to hear. Those are the tires I put on mine when I bought it last month. Heard really good things about them; been going with about 39psi all the way around; up from the psi that Discount Tire did when they mounted them. Already and improvement in mileage. Fairly quiet as well.

 

I got 57.5 mpg over 623 miles from my first tank with Energy Saver A/S which is a drop of about 3.5 mpg from the previous fill up using the 5 year old Yokohoma Avid s33d - the lower results was probably due to me using the AC more often and the tire installers setting the Energy Saver A/S at 33/31 psi while my old Yokohama Avid s33d were set at 44/42 psi. For my Second tank of gas with the Energy Saver A/S - I've raise the tire pressure to 44/42 psi....

 

Thought I would post my real world experience with Michelin Energy Saver A/S. They are coming to the end of their useful life and I am looking at replacements. I have driven 61,018.5 miles on them and burnt through 1,290.421 gallons for an overall average of 47.29 mpg. These miles were driven in northern Wisconsin with no hypermiling attempts. We just drove as usual. Worst mileage was 37 mpg in the winter and 56 mpg just last month. These tires cost $637.22.

Our previous tires got an overall average of 46.67 mpg. I unfortunately don't remember the brand of tire. If I calculate for a life of 61,018.5 miles, for both tires, the Energy Saver A/S have saved us $46.56 (gas at $2.749/gallon). While I really like the Energy Savers, I am not sure any money was saved when you consider the original cost of the tires. I am thinking I could spend $550 for a set of tires and get similar fuel mileage

 

I have a dilemma. As everyone knows, Costco has the Bridgestone EP422 plus with the $70 discount for a set of 4 tires. At $90 a piece, just about $325 out the door. Seems like a good price. Offer is good until the end of the month.

Currently I have 2 Toyo Proxes with 44,200 miles and two Primewell Valera from Wheel Works with 20,000 miles.

The Toyo Proxes threads are probably good just before the start of winter (assuming that it actually u rains here in Cali), the Primewell Valera has at least another year or two.

Not sure if I should wait longer to replace the tires after August or purchase this month and take advantage of the instant rebate. What to do.
