2012 Prius Four with TRD - "Performance Plus" suspension, aerodynamics and 17" wheels.
The bone jarring ride is killing us. The car sits so low that my wife is cracking TRD body work against even the lowest curbs or parking lot bump stops. Also, entering or leaving parking lots with any incline will case the center bottom of the car to scrape and grind.

Is it a big job,,,$$$ to replace only the TRD springs with stock 2012 Prius springs to eliminate most of the maladies presented above with a softer ride and normal ride height?
My Prius friends can't believe the rock hard, no give suspension, in mine. HELP

Yes, the complete Plus package was dealer installed at purchase, confirmed with dealer, also listed on the original dealer Marone sticker

    It was a $3,600 option

Probably a lot less effort to find a buyer in SoCal who would swap it for a stock Prius, and maybe make enough $$$ back to pay for your road trip and some fun :)

Yeah, I got a stock model; couldn't see the whole thing about lowering it, larger wheels, etc. Mostly after the mpg in my case. It's a nice look with that package; but just not for me. I'll probably do some lights mods; sway bar, stabilizer bar but not the whole package. I like the clearance I have. Besides, with 2 back surgeries under my belt, I don't need that rough ride. ;) I'm comfortable in the stock model for long trips. And like breakfast mentioned, easier to swap cars with somebody; maybe even make some $$$ in the process. Probably easier than actually undoing all that; parting out the package and going with stock.

when you swap cars, do you have to pay sales tax again?

Good question - possibly one for a lawyer. Oregon doesn't have sales tax, so there may be a limited impact for the OP in a hypothetical car swap situation.

In NC if you haven't had the car long you can send in a form to get the tax reimbursed from the first car. But you'd still have to pay to swap the title and to register it.

Sell the 17" wheels& tires and buy a set of larger 15" wheel & tires.ask if they can make sure it doesn't rub on turns before purchase otherwise go with OEM. size. When a vehicle is lowered, w body kit, harsher ride, scrapping, damages is to be expected . My c7 w 19, 20 " wheels w wider tires in touring mode rides much more comfortable than the prius.

So you did buy the car used already modded though right? Or did you pay the $3600 to have it installed..

I have been quoted from $400-$600 to have TRD springs installed... Some members on here have the tools and patients required to do it for a lot cheaper and might do so if asked nicely....so I hear :)

It is supposedly a pretty involved job though and a couple special tools are needed.

I wanted TRD springs but already have a stiff ride due to my personas 17" rims.... Don't want the scraping either so I might not get the lower springs now. Well that and the $400-$600 crazy install price.

    Good luck.
