Sorry for late reply, not on here much .
I get service at Longo Toyota. I brought up the issue and they stated I needed to make an appointment in order for them to diagnose again.

Might take it in for spring break.

I will add a pole later today but I have tried different springs including the TRD and even went back to stock.
Does not seem to make a difference in my case.

Lately I've been hearing what I thought was the tick. However, it's very faint so I can't really tell if it's the tick or just one of those dash creaks. I'm just a few hundred miles before 60K now. I took it the dealer for oil change, software update and also mentioned the tick. They took it for test drive and didn't hear it. I told them I want to get it taken care of before 60K warranty is up. They told me that my noise issue is well documented on my VIN number so even if the noise came back at 70K, Toyota will still honor the warranty.

okay guys... I decided that if I put back my stock springs and the sound is still there, I would take it to the dealer and have them fix it before my warranty expires... so I put back on my stock springs over the weekend... drove it around... SOUND IS GONE! damn it! now how am I suppose to bring it to the dealer with out any ticking sound! I just hate the situation... car looks great on the TRD springs, the ticking sound is really annoying though and everyone seems to look at me whenever I pull up on a light or somewhere... I just can't stand it... let's see how long until the sound comes back on the stock springs.. if it doesn't... I guess there will be a set of TRD springs for sale in the marketplace...

I had the same issue. I'm going back to the coilovers and will just deal with the sound until a better solution comes up. The good news is that I'm soundproofing the interior so it should be less of an annoyance to me.

My question is if the Prius models that come from the factory with TRD springs have his same ticking sound issue.

The answer is absolutely yes. I've got a 2014 Prius PLUS that just hit 28k, and the ticking is LOUD. The fact that I drive it much as I do my 320hp/tq Volkswagen GTI has probably helped to hasten the appearance of the dreaded racket...

    Op here, update.

I am out of warranty and Longo Toyota stated I would be charged if inspected and something other than what was worked on is diagnosed.

Had a few bad experiences with them so I will keep on driving car as is since noise has stayed the same.

Side note, heard this ticking while walking the other day, came from stock Prius. Owner didn't seem to have been aware. ( elderly person)

Yeah, Longo is part of the Penske empire. He's got to find some way to pay for all his racing toys. But as the NADA keeps telling everyone, without dealerships there would be nobody to stick up for the consumer against big mean companies like Tesla. Thoroughbreds on ice rinks!!!*

...and I spent years in the auto industry, including working for a dealership.

FWIW, I think it's related to the lighter grease being used by Toyota to try and milk every last MPG out of the car. I'm tempted to have some HD shafts made for it, and using a quality molybdenum grease in the joints. Strangely the ticking was much quieter today, no doubt due to my having mentioned it last night...

*: That's "horse hockey" among the more genteel folks. ;-)

    Toyota quality has gone downhill.
I will be trading in my car hopefully within the year, for now I will drive it and pretend the noise isn't there.

    Yes its been horrible experience.

When I bought the Prius I also bought a corolla and guess what ... It was recalled due to manufacturing defect on the heads/ valves. Car only had about 10 k miles on it. Head assembly was replaced but that does not inspire much confidence.

Hopefully car stays in one piece until I trade it in next year.

I am having the same problem. I noticed the faint ticking sound just a few months ago. Glad it's just not me.

The noise is faint and not really enough to bother me. What gets me worried is that if I don't get it fixed now under warranty, it might cause me $$$ to get the real problem fixed. Also worried that it might be a safety issue if not taken care if now.

I am at 66k miles, no more warranty. I know OP did replaced some stuff, but it came back. Don't want to waste any $$

Edit: I see a future recall if a lot of people have this problem, but most probably don't care

You should have taken it in while you still had the powertrain warranty. According to my dealer, any problems noted during warranty period are automatically grandfathered. Not sure for how long though.

    Hi everyone.
First time I've notived something wrong with the front axles the car had about 2 yr (15k), it was something like a wave on the front, during roundabouts and at very low speed. Then it went away and became a ticking noise, during regen braking. Yesterday (car has 5.5 years and 72k) shifted to N and pushed a bit, I noticed some retention and the same ticking noise. CV joint getting worse, I believe. I'm not going to replace it right away, since i think it has to get real nasty to present a problem.

So after reading this entire thread, OP still has the problem even after having both CV Axels replaced?

So does anybody really know what the problem is or are the parts just not holding up?
