I currently have a 2011 Camry that I want to trade in for a Prius. I found a few 2013 Prius Two, not II since it is not a 2010, models for around $14~15k but they are not certified. I found some that are the same year with the same mileage(40-50k) but are certified but they are in the high $19k low $20k. Should I really purchase a certified one since it is a hybrid, or go with the non certified? What would you guys recommend? Thank you!
I wouldn't get too hung up on certified cars. I've looked at some so-called certified cars before I bought mine and found that even routine maintenance wasn't done Sometimes. Dirty oil, low fluids, bad tires, Etc. just a thorough going over from front to back at your local Toyota dealership for other shop that specializes in hybrids should be enough. They'll be able to point out anything obvious out might need to be done. Good bargaining power. and don't be afraid to look at fleet vehicles. I actually got my 2013 from the local Hertz rental car lot. And I actually got mine at $13,000, certified with a one year or 12,000 mile warranty. So it pays to shop around.
You might be able to find a new 2015 in the low 20 range, with the incentives that Toyota has been offering lately.
Since these cars are so reliable, I would not be concerned with CPO. We have bought three pre-owned, none certified and have had no issues.
welcome! due diligence on the non certified, a $100. inspection at toyota, and you should be fine. all the best!
