Locked my key in my car.

take your key out and look at it. It's a special key.....way over engineered to be a door key with no other function.

it won't unlock because the sensor in the center console can pick up the signal in the car.

forgot to mention, if you can reach the key, you can try pressing the unlock button on the fob too.......

 

So old-school, it never occurred to me.

is the valet switch in the same spot as the gen2?
try pushing it and maybe the doors will unlock when you touch the handle

 

Good plan. I did that.

 

At least my 2012 Prius+ (Prius v in American English) lets you lock the doors using the fob's lock button when another fob is inside the car. If you do that you must unlock the car using fob's unlock button, just grabbing the door handle does not work.

I do it once in a while when I go somewhere with my wife and she leaves her purse (with a fob in it) in the car.

Such info can be easily be found on youtube, no one let the genie out of the bottle.

 

The Prius system can detect if the key is inside or outside the car. It reacts differently in each case. The SKS won't work if the key is inside the car. It will work if it's outside the car. If one FOB is inside and the other outside (car not in "ready") I -assume- the SKS would work. But you all know the real meaning of "assume", right?
Maybe it's time to get two FOBs, roll the drivers window down, and do some testing.

I suspect the wife got pissed that the car wouldn't lock and locked it with the mechanical key. She outsmarted the smart key.

Oh, and as far as "letting the cat out of the bag", I repeat, you all know that glass breaks, right? Anyone can get into your car at any time they want, as quickly as they want.

haha! Driving my Prius.

 

You need to clean your car so you can see your fOB.

 

Its also possible the Key Fob battery was low and was not detected.
