iPod integration is finally a reality for all Prius owners! It used to be that the only Priui the Dension ice>Link system would work with were the non-navigation ones, but that has now changed. (Dension now sells their product through DICE, so there's a name change in case you get confused) As a celebration, myself and another Prius owner, Marc Ronick, are trying to put together a group buy on the DICE iPod integration unit. The more people we have involved, the cheaper it will be for everyone. The most expensive it will be at this point is $179, but that could go drastically cheaper if more people get involved. The new DICE system includes an AUX Audio Input (for those of you without a 2006+), and has 3 different modes: Simple Mode - no text through factory radio Advanced Mode - 10 second intitialization lag but it does start back up the iPod where it left off and you have control via the iPod or the factory controls (steering wheel or headunit) UR Mode: Locks out iPod controls, but there is no lag in the system. Still has steering wheel and headunit controls Cradles are now an extra charge ($59.99) and won't be ready for another 3 weeks or so. They do have a few of the Dension cradles left and those will ship to the earliest buyers (I'll find out if there's an extra charge for them). But the system does include the docking cable included in the price. And in the future there will be a cradle option for the Video iPod to output video Very cool! Here is some info from the manufacturer about the system: Factory iPod integration from DICE! Connect your iPod to your vehicle's factory entertainment system and hear what your iPod should sound like in your car. CD-quality sound and controls from your radio, steering wheel or the iPod. Always keeps your iPod charged and ready to go. Radios supporting CD-text will also display text from your iPod allowing you to view song title and artist name right on your radio's display. A clean factory looking installation is possible with our sleek iPod cradle and hidden installations can be done with our docking cable. Danny -- is this a unit that works like a CD drive (ie, only 6 playlists) or does it do more? I'm liking the VAIS interface (MD, 99 playlists) as the only realistic solution for my '05, but am still researching options.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(allenhuffman @ Apr 21 2006, 03:00 PM) </div> I don't own an iPod yet, but how many songs can be put on a playlist? I'm asking because the number of playlists may not be as important to me as I don't have that many songs anyway. I'm looking at this for audio books. This does look good anyway as I have a portable XM radio. At the moment I have a choice of either using the cassette adapter or the built-in FM transmitter.
Very interested. A couple of questions: - Is this the best system? This is the only message I read regarding connecting an ipod, so I don't know if there are different ways to do it and how much they cost. I have a 2004 package #9, if it makes a difference - Will it work with any ipod model? I would like to use my old one (the very first ipod on the market) Thanks!

Just to make this easier (and for other events as well), I've added a RSVP system to PriusChat. You can now sign up for the group-buy there. Please sign up ASAP if you are interested so that I can start working on a price: http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=rsvp&CODE=10&id=1 Thanks! Danny
While I signed up for it, this thread makes me nervous. http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=17701 I'd prefer to know now if the one we'd get off this deal is actually less prone to locking up...
So this one works with AND without nav in the Prius right? I don't have an iPOD but I have an mp3 player so I don't know if I can shell out $179 just for an AUX input since I assume most of that cost is because of the iPOD adapter. And like most things I've ordered so far, shipping kills the price since shipping up here is quite expensive apparently.
