Hello, I am new here and I need your help. I installed a Dorman rebuilt traction battery for my mother's 2002 Prius and it threw P3006 and P3016 right off the bat. I got authorization for a return but I am skeptical to install another replacement. So now I'm think about ordering a brand new battery from Toyota but I searched and searched and couldn't find any information on how difficult it is to swap the electronics over. I did find a YouTube video and saw that the electronics are enclosed within the case and because I am not an electrician (but I do have a pair of class 0 insulation gloves), I don't know how risky it is to go inside and remove the components. Btw I have been studying threads here for over a week and I have learned so much about the car. You guys are the best! I am also an ex-mechanic so I am very familiar with vehicle repair but please bear with me as this is my first Prius experience. Thanks everyone.
You may want to order the Priuskings hybrid battery video. It goes through all the steps on how to safely repair and rebuild hybrid batteries. I think it's on eBay or amazon. However those codes are pointing to unbalanced voltage within your pack and a broken sensor tab most likely. Either way dorman should refund you or exchange as this is a non working battery. Good luck !
Dorman will honor their warrnty. Sounds like it could be an assembly issue. Switch the electronics over is something you can handle. Open up your old one for reference.
I just want to update that Dorman was good at honoring a replacement battery. 2 weeks of good driving and now the engine has trouble staying running. I will run the codes soon.
Roughly 60k miles. Scanned the code and it was P3101. Cleared the code and everything is back to normal. So strange.
