How do you reset ABS light & yellow ((!)) with Mini VCI and techstream

Ok. I just completed both those calibrations and they are the same ones I did last night because I remember the procedures now going through it again .

Ran a health check and this time the only code that shows up is B1421

Just read 1421 Code is Bogus as its in the shade. Thanks again for all your help I'll just give an update tomorrow if it all comes back on like I expect ...I will have to take a visit to the stealer ship and see if they can help me in anyway I give up

 

You already have determined that B1421 is not a problem.

U0129 is logged by the hybrid vehicle ECU and U0121 is logged by the power steering ECU. Both of those ECUs are reporting there is no communications with the skid control ECU via the vehicle controller area network (CAN). This is like a computer local area network.

It is probably time for you to seek professional assistance if the codes return, unless you are up for trying to figure out the communications problems by following the troubleshooting process as described in the repair manual. You need a multimeter so that you can measure resistance, and you need access to the skid control ECU which implies dashboard disassembly. You would use the multimeter to determine resistance across the CAN bus line as viewed from the skid control ECU. You would also verify the presence of ground and 12VDC at various wiring harness connector pins that connect to the skid control ECU. If the comm measurement is good and the voltage measurement is good, then the skid control ECU would be deemed faulty per the troubleshooting tree.

This task is more than a casual project.

 

Thank you Patrick .. Excellent diagnostic information as usual from you . Yes I decided last night it was going into the shop .. It does make sense what you explained ... The only thing I find so perplexing is for almost a solid week it kept throwing a code for the left front wheel sensor ... Kept throwing that code 2 days even after I replace that sensor .. What I find so perplexing is why is it now throwing a different set of codes like these it seems to me the codes are changing all the time but it does make sense there is some kind of communication blockage going on to the ECU . I don't really think the stealerShip goes into this kind of troubleshooting I think They see a code after running their software diagnostics then just want to replace a part... but I'll ask them in fact I think I will take it to another one in the area I don't really trust the first one .. Thank you again for your excellent feedback !

 

Yes, that is very troubling. If this were my car I would access the skid control ECU, remove the wiring harness connectors, spray electrical contact cleaner into the connectors and the ECU connector sockets, then reassemble and see if that helps. Possibly intermittent connections might be inducing these fault codes, especially if the car has been in an area of high humidity.

Good luck with your search for an honest and technically competent repair effort.

 

That's good advice Patrick I'll see if I can talk to them and try to give them a little bit of history and see if they'll work with me on doing this ... Actually Texas has had historical rainfall in the last three weeks and we have had a lot of humidity now as a result.

One last question. Should I let the dealers know what the codes and possible troubleshooting that will need to be done when I call them, or should I let them do their own troubleshooting? I can say a friend has a small shop and tried to help me and I have the history on the codes and the issues over the last week, and what troubleshooting would need to be done, but not sure how much I should tell them. If it were me, I would want as much history and information as possible, but then again I'm not a Prius Technician or a Service Manager at a Stealership.

 

Well, I don't think it hurts for you to say what codes you retrieved and what action you took. That shows that you are more informed than 95% of auto owners, and may help as you discuss what needs to be done now.

@Avi's Advanced Automotive i am here in lo angeles too ( olympic la cienega). i have codes c1345 c1451. went to dealer with other issue completely now they say i need to change that ecu for over $4000. i think they made a short circuit when they tried to connect their scanning tool, i have christmas and hannuka lights at the same time. abs, traction control, ((!)) , emergency brake. i have no regenerative and battery charge is very slow.
car is there at dtwn toyota dealership for 3 days now. i was not charged for anything yet, i am convinced they were the ones to blame.

 

They must have a boat payment coming due.

Neither of those codes mean anything like the ECU needing to be replaced. The C1345 means that the ECU got reset at some point and lost the values it learned for the linear solenoid valve offsets. All you do is tell it "hey, go learn the linear solenoid offsets again", and it does, and the code goes away. You can do that like this. It can be done with Techstream, or just with a short piece of wire with skinny ends. It's a completely routine thing to do.

The C1451 is a protect-you-from-yourself code that disables the electronic braking if a certain maintenance mode has been used where it's possible you might have done work that let air in. The code goes away after following the Techstream brake bleed procedure. I know of no other way to make that code go away; disconnecting power doesn't clear it. The regular brake code clear doesn't clear it. It is there to force you through the bleed procedure, even if you know full well you did nothing to let air in and it isn't really needed. You just say "sure, ok", start the procedure, follow the steps, and the code goes away. That's it.

Now, if they're absolutely sure they've been through exactly those steps, and they're sure they did them correctly, and the codes really haven't gone away, that could possibly indicate a bad ECU. I would much sooner bet, though, that they have just been fussing around with all the other reset and clear tricks they've ever heard of, and wondering why they haven't worked, instead of just doing the two simple things the manual tells you to do when you have those two codes.

@ChapmanF . Thanks for that post i needed that one..it makes me strong. Knowledge is power and i will soon use it to show dealer im not a p*****y.
Dealer did nothing but resetting system with that 12v battery. They dont want to spend anytime on it .i opened a case with toyota hq today. You know dealers much rather go on collectiong $150 for oil change untill i will show them im standing against them.
I still know and remember something very simple. When i went in there. The guy who wrote the ticket was with me in the car .nothing displayed on my dash.

It occurs to me that it might be necessary to deal with the C1451 first (as it disables electronic braking control, so it might not be possible to touch off the linear solenoid learning until after that's resolved). Trying in the wrong order might also make them think "dang, must be something wrong with this ECU!"

@ChapmanF my car is back to normal all o.k dealer didnt get any money from me. I had to take my car out of there. They couldnt care bout what they did and nothing helped. So i took the car to @Avi's Advanced Automotive and we followed that bleeding process. We didnt even bleed it just followed the process step by step. 10 minutes after that all was ok. Back to normal. Avi is a great guy. .i mean it. He helped me for free. And something dealer wanted 4,0000 to fix turned to be exactly as you said. I thank you a lot for that knowledge you provided. Gave me lots of confidence. @JC91006 thank you too for helping me to find avi.
Downtown l.a toyota dealer behaved like a monster.nothing helped they pushed all on me and said bad computer was there long before. Just predetors with no shame. Even toyota hq didnt help . @Raytheeagle
