Greetings all! We recently traded our '08 for a '13 and noticed that the soft pad that sits in the bottom of the door grip/handle on the driver's side is missing (the passenger side is there, so that's how we know they exist in the first place ) . We also assume that there is supposed to be some type of mat/pad in the center storage bin under the console? So, we're looking for suggestions on what to use to make these... Thanks!
I used some rubber mat material I had on hand, readlily available at hardware stores. The front face had a rib pattern I didn't really want, so I flipped it over, used the back face. We had one missing too, had them both at the outset, but lost one. Used the remaining one as a template. The OEM center bin material is different: some sort of synthetic felt, maybe 1/16" thick, medium grey. There's a vecro strip under, to grip it.
(long time lurker/new owner) i came here to ask about the center storage bin mat/pad (under the flying buttress) my Prius Two, not II, is weeks old and there is no Velcro to secure it, plus it is just a cheap ol' hunk o' felt like fabric. I was hoping there was pre-cut after market rubber-esque thing I could buy. (is there?) My feeling is gak27 is going to have a hard time cutting anything to fit the center bin if they don't have a tempplate. I may have time to look around home depot for something to cut as a replacement. If it works I'll scan the 'pad' at work so gak27 has a template but maybe some here is more qualified.
Yep those door grip inserts disappeared first time I had someone else "detail" my car. Didn't even notice for a while. Those industrial vacuum cleaners just sucked them up without a hiccup I imagine. As mentioned, rubber mat or even felt would work. Use a paper template to cut replacement(s) or opposite side unit for doors.
Our missing one is probably still sitting in our wet/dry vacuum, it's been a long time since I changed the bag. But not worth the fun of finding out, one way or the other.
What critical function does the door grip pad serve? If you have a habit of peering into the door-grip recess and the naked screw head bothers you, cover it with a piece of tape. The pads should've been glued (or Velcroed) in place---but not so strongly that the pad can't be non-destructively removed for access to the screw.
I had the same issue. Although it was unsightly, when listening to the radio at volume it made the coins I keep there rattle. At first I thought there was a blown speaker, but it was just the coins. Having a lot of old computer stuff laying around, I cut a piece of an old thin mouse pad to fit. Solved the problem for me.
Call it the thrill of new (to me) ownership, call it an insatiable desire for door handle grip symmetry, call it simple curiosity and the means to ask a question on PriusChat I noticed the missing one and was curious about them, and when I first looked at the bin under the buttress, it just seemed that there would normally be some kind of pad/mat there...
