Sorry to bring up an old thread but the video seems to be dead. Does anyone have a copy or know of another diy video for this? Thanks

Funny thing is that I just called to find out how much my local Toyota dealership would charge to change the transmission fluid and they told me that the 2013 Prius doesn't have any fluid in the transmission.

Ask them "Why is Toyota ATF-WS specified for the transaxle then?" :D

I'm going to call them back and offer to forward them this video so that they can see the liquid draining from the transaxle.

Called them back and they just argued with me. They wouldn't even give me a price on a drain and fill after they finally admitted that it did have fluid in it. Called another dealer and they wanted $165 with $58 being the cost of the fluid. Told them that I could buy the fluid from their parts department for $28.

Guess I'll just have to do it myself. Boy, you really can't trust these dealerships.

Some dealerships drive you to DIY. Hey, not so bad.

I can see it being frustrating though, for someone without DIY option, for whatever reason.

Maybe we could teach the dealerships how to do it, lol.

Are the drain plug washers the same as the oil drain plug washers?

The transaxle drain plug washers are made of aluminum and have a much larger inner diameter compared to the engine oil drain plug washer which is a fiber/metal sandwich.

    10 mm hex socket needed.

Here's my last bill including transaxle fluid items. Last "GASKET" is the transaxle drain and fill bolt washers. Next one up the list is for engine oil pan drain bolt.

Here's the Toyota instruction, with torque values etc:

$3.95 is for washer fluid. The aluminum transaxle plug gasket is $1.99 in the invoice, and the amounts are CAD, not USD.

I got sucked in by the Byzantine descriptions too. It's like being on Jeopardy: just say and read everything the opposite of intuitive, you'll be fine. :)

My car was schedule for a routine 10k miles oil change and tire rotation (2012 80k miles original owner) and I figure I would do the ATF fluid change myself. My brother who works for Lexus and was able to get me 4 bottles and two washers for $30 after his discount. The procedure was straight forward, I followed the video instructions the only thing I did different was use a funnel with 3' clear tube to pour the fluid from the top. Oh by the way I had to remove the whole panel to get to the two plugs, there was no way of accessing it through the oil change door.
