After paying for a cheap battery fix & having it fail twice I am looking at other options. I was looking for a good used newer battery but found a 2013 pack for $750 and since age seems more important than anything I like the idea of buying it and taking the guts out to put in my 05 case & electronics. Is this feasible? I know in the past there was talk of using 3rd gen c ells but cant find the threads now.
    Thanks
    John

That is what I would do if faced with a 2G traction battery failure.

I have heard that the cells used in the newer gen2 batts are the same as the gen 3 batts. Can someone verify that? Just had a new hvbatt installed today in 04 and I hope it goes farther than the 177400 the last one went. Not really complaining but I live in a mild climate

that remains to be seen, but some would say it's more about the eleven years than the 177,000 miles.

Yes, I guess that was a good enough run. My battery checked at less than .10/ volt difference on all banks but 1. It was all I could do not to try to repair the battery. As everyone knows it is a problem if it goes out a month later. I did drive it about 60 milles after it was diagnosed to get the install done. I have driven about 140 miles and my meter says I am getting about 5mpg better. I know it is too early to tell but it seems to glide and run more on the battery. I saw a post where someone said the cells on the newer II batts had the same #s as the III batts but did not verify. Next oil change am swithching to synthetic oil as I want the motor to last as long as the battery.

We have several customers who have used 3rd gen modules in a 2nd gen without issue.
