Hello everyone I just stumbled on this page which seemed to be full of useful information and thought I'd register so I could voice my opinion. Anyways, I got my Prius Saturday, it was the "red" version which looks a lot lighter than some other "red" Priuses I've seen, I'm ok with it, my g/f on the other hand wished it wasn't so red red, but hey beggers can't be choosers I was on the waitlist for less than a week, and I jumped up a couple spots when someone apparently was on easter vacation. Well got to say I like the car, I haven't had a chance to drive it to work yet (spring break), but so far highway speeds (55-*cough*80mph) and up and down the hills of San Francisco (which I find out is brutal on the mileage, big shocker), but my average so far (with over 130miles on it) is around 48mpg which I have to say is quite impressive, still learning the finer arts of maximizing mileage, but I did notice the other day going 67mph on a flat stretch of 101 the computer dohicky said I was getting 68mpg, and according to the graphics the engine was running, so I don't know if this is a glitch or what, but I like it
Enjoy your new car. You can learn about anything you'd like to know about the Prius on this web site. I credit all my mods to the car to PriusChat.com. Read and enjoy, if your like me, you can't wait until you have to drive somewhere to get the Prius out. ---Kent
First question: what sort of job gives you spring break?!?!?! now taht thats out of the way... It's quite common to see variable MPG usage on the MFD when the engine is running. Just because the engine is technically running doesn't always mean it's using the same amount of gas...

*ding ding* Give the Mac lover a prize! College teaching to be specific, so I also get out of work early too Oh I'll have 2 and a half months of vacation in the spring as well Ok, that being said, yeah I plan on driving down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium friday if weather is holding up. I just realized after posting maybe it was giving "inaccurate" MPG readings was that the car was mostly coasting at speed and the engine was just reacharging the batteries slightly or something, either way, a hair under 50mpg for an average driving conditions I'm happy.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(MikeSF @ Apr 20 2006, 12:38 PM) </div> You were actually getting that mileage.. With the differences in terrain, winds, stops, starts, etc, you MPG changes over a tankful... But that sounds great. ENJOY!! There is a lot to read here. You may become obsessed!
[attachmentid=3055]That kind of mileage in the hills of SF sounds pretty good to me. I too find myself driving places really just for the drive itself. Last night I drove around a bit to just clear my head. I have never done that before. It worked too. It's a great car and I like the people to chat with people about it here. I think the 2006 red is brighter than the 2005 red. I have really grown to like it. It is a good thing my female friend doesn't object to anything about the car. That shows she is smart about relationships. And it would be a hard choice to make! Congratulations. PS: need yet another clinical psychologist in SF?
<_< Howdy Max Smart... I note that you don't have the "wheel covers" on your red beauty. Did you remove them, or did they come that way? Mine are still "on" but probably will remove them.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Charles Suitt @ Apr 20 2006, 01:03 PM) </div> On the advice of several on this site I removed them. They are flimsy and came off easily by hand. I had always thought the stock wheels looked strange, didn't seem to fit the car. I like it this way much better.

It is 28% on the sides, which I was told is legal in any state, and 18% on the hatch which is not legal I think in Oklahoma. The back is a bit dark backing out of the drive at night but not enough I worry about it. I wanted the heat protection with such a large glass surface. I don't feel this tint impairs my vision at all otherwise. This website gives information on tint legalities in various states: http://www.tintcenter.com/. I'm attaching a pre-tint photo for comparison. Getting one of these cars is very exciting. It'll have you wanting to go out for bread just for the drive.
