Need help rolling my fenders. Trying the phone book method of heating, shoving phone books under and and lowering the car. Front fender started popping up where it meets the side skirt but nothing bad. Nothing in the fender pinched or moved. Rear fender I got to move just a little but is thicker. My other concern for the fronts is what about the clip holder, will it need rolled too and how will the splash guard fit?

Should I take it to a shop for $250 or buy real fender roller tool for around $100 and resell it later or do I try the phonebook method again but slower? Also do I need a fender finisher?

Got it to move very little.

Don’t use the phone book method! I can’t really give you much help right now. But real rolling tool will do much better work than phone book.

Buy a fuel efficient car and then........
Spend money modifying it to use BIG WIDE tires that will cut maybe 5 MPG off the average.

Something is wrong with this picture.

not if it makes someone happy...

Sezy, buy the rolling tool and then charge all your friends to roll their fenders.

Sounds like my dad ^^^ LOL I say the following with a smile and no disrespect.
    A. I inherited this car after my grandfather passed. So it was basically free besides the emotional cost.
    B. It's my money to spend how I feel.
    C. What better car to modify than a Prius that has MPG to spare.
    D. The car is lowered and I looked for rims with wider spokes vs skinny ones to help aerodynamics that in theory MAY improve or in my case maintain MPG.
    E. Hoping wider tires will make the car feel more grounded and not get pushed around so much by the wind on highways.
    F. Why be like everyone else?

Made some progress with a heat gun one turn from the highest setting and focused longer on certain areas.. Kinda get fed up so took a rubber mallet to the inside wheel well and wouldn't ya know it started rolling like I asked it to! Looks kinda bad in the pic but in person with the wheels on you don't see this inside well. Might still but a roller to smooth it out or retry the phone books. Once done I'll go over with touch up paint.

And I intend no disrespect either:
I probably could be your GRANDdad.
Often those older than you are wiser too. :)

Mucking around with a car usually makes it worth less when you decide to get rid of it; sometimes a LOT less.
There is not a big market for "performance" Prii........unlike some other small cars.

The wise thing for you to do is trade the Prius in on a model that is closer to what you want to start with so your mods don't have to be as drastic.

As far as "your money to spend", absolutely true IF you are completely out of debt.
Otherwise you are just borrowing money to finance your hobbies.

Have fun. Hope it turns out good for you and you don't have to re-learn too many things that others have already figured out.

When I was attempting to use 225/40R19 installed on a set of 19x7 45et I had to trim on the rear fender the metal fender tab screw and the highlighted metal on the body.

With a 215/35R19 I didn't have to roll or trim anything in the rear.

On the front I'd only roll them if you rub. I did have to roll the fronts with the 225/40R19 but not the 215/35R19. On both I needed to trim the front bumper tab and screw.

185/55/15 VS 215/45/17 about an inch wide. Rolling wasn't necessary in the rear but glad I did in the front because I want to go lower. I have heard some scuffing from the front but not when I turn the wheel, more when hitting pot holes.

Nice setup. How much difference in weight were the Subie wheel/tire combo?

scuze the hijack: im thinkin about getting a set of 16x 7" 40mm backset wheels that have 225/50r16 bridgestones. think those'll fit on an un-lowered prius? will I need spacers? really don't want to roll or trim the fenders.

When I get around to lowering the front more I'll weigh the tires and rims. I'll also take closer pics of the fitment. Wanted to go bigger with a 225/ but these 215/ handle great and look beefy for a Prius. Car feels slower or like it lags now. Wonder if resetting anything would help. Oh and my TMPS sensors were used off ebay, light came on once two days into having the rims after driving like 30 minutes then went away in the morning. Hasn't come back since so yes you can get used ones off another prius and not need to program them.

Its hard to beat these factory weights with anything that looks decent in my opinion...

    2004-2009 Prius
    15" wheel weighs 14.3 lbs
    16" wheel weighs 15.2 lbs

    2001-2003 Prius
    14" wheel weighs 13 lbs

The new Gen3 is much heavier..

    Plugin Prius
    15" wheel weighs 18.25 lbs

    2010-2013 Prius - NON Plugin
    15" wheel weighs 16.3 lbs,
    17" wheel weighs 24.25 lbs

just brought home some motegi traklites. 16x7" they weigh 5.7kg = 12.54#. they need paint, but not chewed up. I don't think the 225/50R16 tires are gonna fit. I think if the wheels were 50mm backset they'd fit. pix later.

Want to go lower in front so had to do some pulling with the phone book method.

As you can see looks like the tire has been rubbing.

It may not be pretty, but those old-school body-shop tricks do work. Looks good!

OEM wheels weight is 30.5 Lbs ---- tires at about 6/32
    Subaru 17s are 47 Lbs --- tires at 8/32

Curbed a rim in Chicago and got a $3 pin stripe kit. Did one wheel and looks like junk. It's stickers you put on in sections. Ready to remove it until I saw it with the flash on and loved the effect. Had them on for a week. Used a heat gun but still won't lay flat in certain areas, looks bubbled up and bumpy over the curb rash.

    Snapchat-6409114261222243112.jpg Snapchat--7707265942872168874.jpg

Makes the wheel look a bit smaller too.
