My 2005 HV battery is dying? Any suggestions would be appreciated

    I own a 2005 Prius with 110,000 miles on it. The car almost died on the highway on 5/28/15.The high voltage light,the abs light and the check engine light come on every time I start it. A local repair shop that i trust checked it out and the codes they came up with are P0A80, P3021,P3022, C1241,C1259, C1310 C1532,B1421 and B1443....Basically they are saying I have to replace the HV battery, I was wondeing what the forum thinks? by the way the dealer was contacted and they said for warranty purposes in Missouri it is 8 years or 100,000 miles and I am past both.

    It's true it could be the battery as a decent percent go out around 10-yrs and the dealer is correct regarding the 8-yr 100k miles warranty in your state (and mine). So we've been hearing many 2005 and 2006 getting new batteries. I am not the mechanical expert but the first step is to confirm that diagnosis. Another issue could be clogged battery cooling fan. Options are then rebuilt battery eg; Dorman Greenetc etc, or go with Toyota on a new battery normally $3000-4000 depending on what they do. Some folks call Toyota to ask for out-of-warranty assistance and not clear how much assist you'd get being pretty far out of warranty but maybe worth a try. But the first step there is you gotta take it into Toyota for diagnosis. Read threads here to see what your preference is...some DIY replace modules etc.

    P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack
    P3021 Battery Block 11 becomes weak
    P3022 Battery Block 12 becomes weak

    Yes, you need a replacement pack.
    Is this a job you might be interested in tackling yourself?
    If so you can save some money.

    You have a few decisions to make before you move forward.
    But spending a little time talking it through now will be worth it.

    I am thinking about Greentec because of the cost...they have an office in Raymore which is about 30 minutes from where I live and they do mobile installation.....any views about them or their batteries....getting a new battery just is out of my finances right now...I am taking the Prius to a dealer next week as well to confirm the codes and diagnosis as well

    A good low-cost option for me a couple of years ago was buying a battery salvaged from a lower-mileage wreck, advertised on Craigslist. So far I've driven over 30K miles on it for a net cost of about $500 and a couple hours of work.

    $500 for a salvage battery? Not any more.
    Around here $500 won't even cover the core charge.

    Greentec is decent as far as I know they are mentioned in the same good graces as Dorman. Greentec is the new option here in the Wash DC region also, we've had several reports of users for example I think search on username JoJo_NC gave some feedback.

    Recent case almost like your 2005 (except the owner lived in a CARB state so he/she was over but closer to the warranty) upon calling Toyota for out-of-warranty assist got $1000 discount and $1800 out the door with new battery. Probably helps if you are orig owner but I don't know that for sure.

    I went to a Greentec shop in Raymore Missouri to replace my hybrid battery paid about 1600 with a 3 year warranty...saved about 1500 since all the dealers in the area were talking at least 3k
