With the audio system on, connecting my Samsung Galaxy 4 (Android) to the car's USB port causes it to create a sonar-like ping that appears rthymicly when the audio system is on. With FM radio or satellite radio on, the ping disappears, but when CDs are playing or when I hang up the phone, the ping becomes audible. Any way to turn it off? I'm not hunting for Red October, at least not yet.
Based on what you've described, it sounds like interference. Have you tried disabling the radios on your phone by putting it into airplane mode and pulling the phone away from the port while it's plugged in? If you're able to take one, a video would be a great help to diagnose the issue.
