Carista OBD-II application rocks (now Updated 4/30/2015 !)

Which OBD tool did you buy?

I paid about $30, but living in Hawaii, I was not about to chance paying for the shipping of crappy units back and forth.
I have a iPhone 6 Plus and it connected right up and it works great...No more Reverse BEEP!, but I have a 2010.

Finally got enough Google Play credit from the Rewards app and purchased. I can confirm it works with a 2012 C2, 2014 Plug-in Base, 2015 Liftback 2.

 

The app looks great!

I noticed that customizations are listed for Prius models 2010+, I have 2nd Gen (2007) and would love to be able to access some of the customizations, is that a future possibility or is it a hardware limitation?

I have a 2012 v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) versatile I just bought, Reading these forums for mods the last couple of days, there is one code a lot of us have been looking for. They do it in canada so would think it is a code change. "Fog lights on like Daylight running lights." Everyone is having to do wiring mods when the computer is able to do it somehow. Any idea? I would buy the items in a heartbeat if they can be found.I

 

Do some or all of the different available OBD II wi-fi connectors (compatible with iPhones and Carista) draw power when the car is turned off, or do they all stop drawing power when a Prius (Gen 3 for me) isn't running/on?

To answer RIKER's question above, I'll say that our device has a low-power sleep mode that consumes very little battery power, but we still don't recommend that users leave the device plugged in - partly for power reasons and partly for security reasons. You don't want anyone who walks by your car to be able to connect to it. Just plug it in when you're using the app and unplug it when you're done. Keep it in the glove box or something. There's no reason to keep it plugged in at all times.

 

Can you explain what the $19.99 Pro function of the app ?
Is this a 1 time fee the unlocks all functions of the app and and keeps you unlocked for future app upgrades ?

 

The Pro Package ($19.99 USD) allows you to change customizations and check/reset manufacturer-specific fault codes. Yes, it's a 1-time payment and unlocks all current functionality for an unlimited number of uses on an unlimited number of cars and an unlimited number of phones/tablets. Generally, you do get updates for free once you've bought the Pro Package, but we reserve the right to introduce new functionality that will be priced/sold separately in the future.

 

the price is fair and justifies the hard work that went into creating such a user friendly app. A stealership would charge more. Plus this is at your fingertips

As far as removing the OBD II connector vs. leaving it plugged in, do you have any experience with using other apps that use data via the OBD II, such as DashCommand or maybe even the new 'Automatic' product (Automatic: Connect Your Car to Your Digital Life)? I don't have any personal experience with these items and am researching what I need to use DashCommand and similar apps. The 'Automatic' product seems kinda pricy and has a lot of 'Big Brother' implications. It seems the OBD II adapter needs to be plugged in all the time, especially if regularly using apps that need the data through that connection. Plugging and unplugging on a regular/daily basis seems like it'd be pretty inconvenient, although I understand the basic risk of someone being able to access a car's computer controls via wireless and give a command to unlock the doors, etc.

This adapter is described as shutting off after 30 minutes but doesn't clarify if that's after a car's ignition is turned off, since last activity, when placed into 'Park' etc.

For those who simply want to disable the reverse or seatbelt beeps, there's another (very cheap) app on Google Play called Prius Tweak. I haven't tried it, so this is not a recommendation, just an FYI.

Also, I hope everyone knows that a lot of the other settings, such as door-lock behavior, can be changed without OBD2, as outlined in the Prius manual.

This is not in any way to deprecate Carista, which looks like a good app with great support.

 

One more happy Carista customer. Installed and deleted the seatbelt & reverse beep.

 

Another happy Carista user: Finally payed the inApp Pro fee and got my advanced error codes out of the Hybride part of my GenIII Prius.
(Alas, there is a problem with the upgrade mechanism on my iPad. The "Buy" button on the right hand of the window didn't show up, it looks like the buying process hangs frequently, also going over to the Apple password dialogue seems to hang. Going in and out of the App page "maybe" solved the problem, I just did the latter part once but have tried to upgrade several times... The App Developers should look into it...)

Thanks Alan, but what I'm looking for is someone whose sensors are not actually programmed into the car (not paired with it, if you will), and that causes the TPMS light to be on. In your case, it sounds like the sensors are properly registered and properly doing their job of detecting low tire pressure. I'm mostly looking for people who have swapped their wheels and haven't coded/registered/programmed/whatever-you-wanna-call-it the new wheels' TPMS sensors into the car.

 

When I throw my winter tires and wheels on, I'll have that problem. I usually don't put them on for another month but if it helps the cause, I might put them on sooner.

 

Todor...i have a adaptor but when i try carly..it tells me ecu to complex...will carista also give this error or is this just a sales gimmic from carly to buy they adaptors?
