While charging my iPhone (used for GPS and music), I get static on the AUX plug inside the center console. For the last two years, I used the Kensington Noise Reducing Car Audio AUX Cable (bought from Amazon ). However, the cord recently frayed and it appears that Kensington no longer makes this cord. Has anyone on Priuschat found any alternatives in the same price range (10-20$)?
You may need a ground loop isolator: PAC SNI-1/3.5 3.5-mm Ground Loop Noise Isolator Works with iPod/Zune/iRiver and Others iPhone ?
Another option I found on Amazon that also reduces the number of cables running up to the iPhone (but more expensive at $50):
Recently bought a used Prius. I guess its good to know this is a known issue and not just a fault with my car.
Got this one on Amazon ($9.54) and it works great - thanks Cyclonis. Only catch is that the plug is male-female so requires another male-male plug to complete the connection between the AUX port and the iPhone.
I would also suggest a ground loop isolator as well as a new AUX cord. The isolator will eliminate static caused by EMI from the electric motors and inverters. I use one with my Bluetooth adapter because the cord was poorly shielded and it makes a world of difference.
