Anybody else hate this guy? Pretty soon we'll just have to look at even more smug pictures of him standing next to a zero emission car that is faster than a Ferrari. Darell, I hope your head explodes from the sheer smugness of it all. Where is MY electric racecar? My electric SUV? My electric Pickup truck? GM? Hello? Anybody? Why is no one building these things? Why was there only limited production? And why is darelldd the only person on the planet who seems to have access to all of them? Anybody else mad as hell about this? Nate P.S. darelldd sucks.
Nate, Yeah I hate Darell now too. I think we should beat him up and take ALL his shit. (I get the Rav4! ) Oh WAIT! I want the solor panel too B)
Now it is hard to HATE a guy that has a cute kid (not a rental right??) and a cool car (can't get the Truly Nolan cars out of my head after seeing your "tail"). Course you could punch him out for being smug.......
Oop. Where did the time go? T-2 days. (The good news for you Darell haters out there is that rain is in the forcast for the weekend... and the vehicle in question has no roof, no doors, no windshield... well, no actual car parts, really. Will suck if it rains. I'll just end up with pictures, and only half of my signature smugness.
Oh no! Don't even get me started on the kid! Pleaes don't ask what she's doing up there. She freaks out about as well as her Dad.
One thing that amused me quite a bit was pulling down the Rav4-EV repair manual along with the '04 Pri in my last onslaught against TIS, and wandering through both of them realizing that a lot of the lessons learned on the Rav4-ev were definitely plowed into the Prius. And possibly vice-versa, given the research timeframes. . This stuff is so cool; I just wish the huge-nice person-corporate side of Toyota would make it all more ... accessible to the people who really want to experiment. . _H*
Amusing to me is hearing the auto makers cry about all the money they "lost" on EV development (and here, I'm mostly talking about GM since everybody else just closed shop and went on with their lives). And the car makers then to on to USE all that knowledge to make better gas cars across the line. So much of the stuff that was developed for the EV1 can now be seen in GM cars. But were those costs amortized at all?! No sir. They just hung all the expenses on the ugly duckling before lighting it on fire and pushing it over the cliff. Toyota will be the first to tell you that they're using their EV knowledge gained from the Rav in much of what they're doing in the Hybrids. It certainly proved their battery chemistry for them! And they learned invaluable lessons about charging algorythms (I can never spell that right). Good point, Hobbit!
Hey look. I'm still smug. Want to make something of it? (Sorry... I'm just testing here... something wrong with PC on the eve of 4.18? Seems screwed up!)
The coolest EV I saw was a turn-of-the-century (that's 20th century, people) one at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The two front seats could rotate to face the rear for conversation (while the car was parked of course). BTW, the new exhibit is on Propulsion After Petroleum. I have to admit, I can understand Darell's smuggness when I'm in EV mode.
I got some info from the net and posted it under thread Electric Vehicles It tells the demise of the saturn EV-1, S-10, Rav-4 ect. P.S. I loved the swivel seat option for the prius, havnt seen that since the monte carlos.. Below is the new mass produced GEM EV's. [attachmentid=3041] Its a real chick magnet!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusguy04 @ Apr 19 2006, 09:40 AM) </div> Which EV thread? I don't see it in this one. Always interested to learn what the giant PR machine churns out. (BTW, the EV1 was not a Saturn. Its only badge was GM. The only GM *brand* vehicle ever made.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priusguy04 @ Apr 19 2006, 11:40 AM) </div> Well, I hope it's a guy magnet too cause as soon as Governor Doyle gets off his a$$ to sign the darn bill I may be driving one. (Except I'm getting the Gem EL truck so I can use it for my business! ) PS I'm not worried about the guys though cause I like to keep ALL my money to myself B)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DaveinOlyWA @ Apr 19 2006, 01:41 PM) </div> I will be getting the hard doors! But thanks for worrying about me Dave
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DaveinOlyWA @ Apr 19 2006, 11:41 AM) </div> And this here is just ONE of my issues with the GEMS. Though I know this was at least paritally tonque in cheek - this is what people think of when they think of EVs. They don't think 0-60 in three seconds. They don't think of 15 minute recharge times, and NEVER having to go to the gas station. They don't think of 300 mile range... they think: Slow, no doors, no heat or AC, dangerous, 25 miles of range. :sigh:
