Should I buy a 2015 Prius or wait until 2016?

Whichever model prius comes with a screen over the rear vents to keep out mice... so far they haven't yet... and when I say keeps out mice I mean out of the cabin where they currently run around freely ... call the NHTSA or google mice in prius ... by the way I am in support of Toyota... just don't want to see someone buy a fleet and regret it not knowing in advance ... if you still want to buy peppermint oil near the vents seems to keep them out

I was going to wait until at least the second year of Gen 4 production, but then last week my wife totaled her Civic. Over email, I was easily able to negotiate with the dealer down to a price on a Gen 3 Prius Two that was less than what I paid for my '08 Gen 2 (package 2) back in 2007. I'm a little sad that I couldn't wait, but I made the most of the situation.

Right now - especially right now - the deals are insane on gen 3 cars.

$4-5k off sticker + 0% financing is easy and common.

My 2 cents.... Buy a prius when gas is cheap... If you wait and gas is a buck more a gallon you will not get a good deal... Who knows what gas will be in 6 months though...

I work in auto promotions and deal with showing the public new toyota's regularly. I ALWAYS advise to wait until the new model is out so you can at least see if it's worth it for you or not, if so sweet, no deal to be had but the rad new model, if it's not quite "all that and a bag of chips" then bam, time for a phenomenal deal on the "old" current model.
Right now all of these types of questions pertain to the 2016 tacoma and the 2016 prius liftback mkiv.

    fyi -
whenever gasoline is cheap - hybrids are cheap...
whenever gasoline is expensive - hybrids cost a bundle.

If money is no object and you want the very best then
    buy a 2016 Prius
(*) The standard version usually will be the most reliable
(*) The luxury version will have the most bells and whistles

    If money is dear then
a new 2015 Prius can possibly save you money
if you get favorable financing arrangements
and a low mileage used 2010-2012 Prius will save you even more money

All cars lose their value over time -
For example KBB says that my 2010 Toyota Prius dealer trade in value is about 12,000 USD - basically a drop in value of about 60% to 50% over five years. . If I had lease a Prius for $240/month for five years it would have costed $14,400 USD ($240/month * 60 months)...

the real value of a motor vehicle is whether it does what you want

    Make so.. Number One! :-D

The earlier post had a discrepancy. I googled mice in Prius and found 100 complaints for gerbils in Volts.

The 2016 Prius is new from the ground up. Everything is new frame, motor, battery sheet metal, electronics.software, interior plastic ( yep). The benefit is better ride quality and mileage. So it's an apple to orange comparison. There completely different cars and the G3 Prius is 6 year old technology.

I got hit at 25 mph in the rear and that was enough to total out the car. Extensive, concentrated damage combines with a high salvage value. So I loved my Prius (mpg) but with the after mentioned history I decided to wait for a better (car) Prius.

My next vehicle will most likely not be a Prius, but the contrary. Mercedes short wheel base Sprinter cargo van ( short roof). It replaces a 12 year old f150 with 210k miles.

The Prius G4 will be purchased in 2016 when the 2017 come out so I can get a discount. But I might end up making payments prior to that if I'm driving crazy miles. Over 40k miles

To choose, you need info of two or more choices, to make decision.

In your case, you don't have the info for one of them. How can you choose?

It's easy. One is old and the other is new. We have all the info from press releases. Same money and better mpg and ride. What's not to like?

What if the one thing you like was discontinued on Gen 4? LKA was removed on the PiP.

I like the gen2 interior more than gen3. But exterior, the other way around. Hope gen4 has both beat previous gens.

Weird as there was a huge improvement between 2nd and 3rd Gen in quality of interior materials as well as nvh aka road noise and comfort.

There no solid data nor release date for the gen4. You may have to pay market price if you want it bad! Do the math there won't be any discounts nor promotions for a while. You can get up to 4,000+ off msrp off 2015 unless you want the latest and greatest! We brought a Chevy volt my opinion is a much better and built car with a 5,750 off msrp, 7,500 federal write off, 1,500 state rebate and a HOV sticker to drive in the car pool lane. in LA stop and go traffic the volt would yeild 60-80 mpg the Prius 50-60mpg but the Prius triumph on long trips 46+ volt 36+mpg.
