I really wish the dealer told/showed me...(post your wishes)

    Sound fishy. The 2 years is STANDARD on pretty much every NEW Toyota sale. I think they were doing something underhanded. Did you report it higher up with Toyota to see what corporate said?

    Hey, I love this thread because I spent a good 3 years plus just hanging around Prius Chat and learning all about Prius and Hybrids before I finally bought my Prius.

    So by the time I walked on the lot, there was nothing I needed the dealer to tell me. Nothing positive or negative that I didn't really expect. I was clearly more informed and versed in "Prius" than my salesman. And honestly I didn't care.

    I remember growing up, when the avenues and outlets for knowledge about a car were really pretty limited to friends, acquaintances, who might be owners, and'or perhaps a magazine or newspaper review or article. But often if you were interested in a vehicle you were at the mercy of what a salesman or dealership told you about it.

    The wonderful thing today, is you can get about as much feedback and information as you want or can handle on almost any vehicle before you buy it. You can literally have a virtual test drive, and/or watch countless reviews on youtube. Or come to places like Prius Chat...

    IMO if you have access to a computer, today there isn't much excuse for being too surprised about anything in regards to a vehicle. The avenues for research and information are so numerous.

    Ugh. I wish I looked under the car when we were at the dealer. Looks like some clips/screws are missing from the front underbody cover. Bought the car CPO, will the warranty cover something like that?

    They got me on the Warranty as well, But I only got it knowing I had 30 days to cancel it. After talking about it more with my wife, we are going to cancel.

    If that's you in your avatar picture, then you're well over 6ft or 2 meters tall. No wonder the seats are uncomfortable. :eek:

    When I ordered my Prius in 2005, the salesperson literally knew very, very little. When it was delivered and I picked it up, the salesperson was referring to the manual in a well-intentioned, but lame attempt to provide useful info. Maybe it's better now, but not from what I read in this thread. This forum is a great resource so long as you're patient and can sift through the many posts. There's a ton of knowledge here, and I'd suspect other veteran Prius owners in your area would also be a good source of info. Good luck.

    It was very handy for me too, as I decided whether to buy a Prius or not after owning a Seat Alhambra kiddy-carrier for the last 15 years. As others have said above I knew more than the salesman, who tried to insist 'B' mode meant 'battery' and I should use it as much as possible to create more regen!

    I can't fault the used car dealer I bought the car from since he's not a Toyota dealer but I wish he had known or explained things that could seriously impact the health of the car that are not present on other vehicles. Things like the air intake next to the rear seat, what it is for and the importance of keeping it clear. My girls love to ride in the back seat with blankets and they could have very easily blocked it and fried the battery. I don't mind running across the desert with the windows down and the a/c off from time to time but that, too, is apparently a no-no with this car. The interior needs to be kept in a comfortable range.
    Standard things that are common to any car (standard maintenance, driving tips, etc.) are just that: standard and common. I would have liked to have a quick rundown of some of the uncommon things that are unique to the health of the Prius.

    Wait, what? If you press the unlock button while in the car, the trunk pops?

    No, but anyone can open the trunk, even without a fob on them. My kids do it all the time.

    Oh, I knew that... I was just annoyed that no one told me that I couldn't pop the trunk while I was in the car, then get out and get something from the back.

    Grass is always greener huh?

    My Camry has SKS and a trunk release cable. It requires you to have an SKS fob on you to open the trunk (locked or unlocked doors). I am forced to pull the trunk release lever for my kids when I drop them off at school.

    The Prius doesn't require you to reach down and pull the lever. Which I prefer, easier to use the unlock button on the armrest.

    I've had my Prius since January 2013. I have driven it in almost every U.S state & every major U.S. city & it has been amazing. One thing that has helped me was to stop dealing with the dealer. After my Toyota Care expired I started going to Valvoline for my oil changes directly. After having long waits in Toyota dealerships for simple routine oil change and fluid checks, I grew tired of the run around. Valvoline I am in and out within 15 mins, some Toyota's kept me waiting 2+ hours. Love Toyota, but the local dealerships have went way downhill. This might not be true for everyone, but it was/is my experience. (And my life is split between NY and California, so its a variety of experiences).

    My other thing would be, check your tire pressure every week or so because I have yet to see any indicator lights on the hybrid system indicator for tire pressure. The only thing the car ever tells you is like 'Maintenance Required.' or 'Maintenance Required Soon.' And that is usually just a pre-set thing anyway. But, for transmission fluid, that is locked down by Toyota, so you will want to make sure you get the complete checkup at 30k miles (cost me like $200). Other than that, for me anyways, its been pretty great. (Although I do regret getting Silver and model Two, I wish I had got a White Plug-In).

    Just some thoughts.

    I wish the dealership had told me the 2015 Prius v was having issues with the touchscreen becoming unresponsive. I wish the sales person had told me the 2015 Prius v I chose had a faulty touchscreen. I wish I had paid closer attention during the test drive when the touchscreen froze and the sales person played it off as not being able to find the screen he was looking for. I wish I had known that the reset procedure for a frozen touchscreen is to either Power down and then Power on the car or power down the radio unit, so that when the sales person had me do this after the test I would have known something fishy was going on and that it wasn't him miraculously finding the screen he couldn't find during the drive. I wish Elvis and Maui Toyota stood by their claim of quality customer service and owned up to this instead of making me feel like the problem occur after I drove it off the lot.

    Great car though! Should have gone to Oahu and bought the car rather than give my money to these Maui shysters.
