Do you see any difference with gen 2 cells vs gen 3?

Im on odometer #3, 2005 was limited to 299,999 miles

 

So you have 80k on the current odo?

 

actually 190k on the third, I bought them used on ebay.

 

What's your secret? how's your oil consumption now days?

 

I own a 2005 prius and am at 200,000 miles. What kind of problems, if any, have you had since the 200,000 mile mark?? I am trying to decide whether or not to keep it and try to get another 100,000 miles! Its been a great car.

 

That's insane, especially, considering the condition you described 'like' 5 years ago. and mostly off road usage, beaten and battered years ago. I can't imagine you could do much other than drive it on a farm, yet that would be 1 HUGE farm too! . I mean, with 5 years ago condition it ought to be just a shell by now. And that would likely mean, you're just running it to power a generator with the wheels lifted, right?

Only that I paid more for them? Ill ask Toyota. They won't say, though rumors that Panasonic refined mfg problems leading to gen 2 failure?? 7.2 V 6.2 Ah labeled the same.

 

Thats why I chose the GEN3 more recent date of MFG

 

Just reached 299,999 miles on the way back from Florida last night (to Virginia) in my 2004 Prius. Of course, now it is stuck on 299,999. To answer the information:

1. Rebuilt the traction battery at 147,000 miles. Grrrrrrrrrrr
2. Replace the transaxle fluid every 100,000 miles.
3. Replaced the brake pads at 247,000 miles.
4. Lifetime MPG has been average of 53 MPG.
5. Oil change every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 5w-30, and add Liqui Moly.
6. Pic added.
7. I am the second owner. Purchased at ~32,000.
8. Miles under ownership: 267,999 +.
9. Overall been a vehicle.

 

1. Why Grrrr? It appears your rebuild has lasted at least 153K miles? How did you do the rebuild?

I was disappointed the traction battery failed at 147,000 miles. That was less than acceptable from Toyota. I was going to order a complete replacement until I did a bit of research. I simply replaced the individual batteries that failed, after ordering them from Japan at the time. The bus was the culprit. I live a block from the beach, and the copper bus is not protected against corrosion, which was the issue. When I rebuilt the battery, I cleaned the bus and coated it with PCB coat to keep it from corroding in the future.

As for a vehicle, it has been better than most. Absolutely horrible in snow due to the traction control system. However, it has lasted almost as long as my 1990 4Runner, and with less issues, honestly. Even with over 300,000 miles I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across country. I cannot say that for any other vehicle I have owned, if they also had the same mileage.

 

Are you saying that you bought new traction battery modules? Who was your supplier and what was the price?

 

It begs the question - how long will the traction pack last - on the last Gen II Prius to get one changed out.

 

That's profoundly bad advice from a mechanical standpoint. By the time it's "giving you trouble", it's too late.

It makes you wonder what other preventive maintenance they don't feel is necessary.

 

Or...It's the definition of life by the dealer/manufacturer....

 

I have an 04 prius, bought at 288xxx miles, now with 2966xx miles. I replaced the combination meter because it has the intermittent non functioning display issues, and Toyota wouldn't replace it (they say they extended the warranty till Sept 30 2013 and won't extend it again).
The CM I got on eBay is a 2008 (see pictures).
How do I get the miles put on the new CM?
Why would the gas gauge not read the almost full tank I had before I replaced the CM?

Why do you need to fix the odometer reading? Maybe you can mark something like odometer went from 296680 to 238525 into service book.
