In any bike race where you are the motor. You want the least roll resistance. Even if you don't win, you will be a mess if you ride on fat tires.. There are many pluses, with slim tires.. they not only cut wind, they cut through water and snow.. A ten speed bike dosent' hydro plane.. so there is your visual.. The vw bug was the peoples car, and people had little money for fuel.. Of the 2 vw tires available the 165 80 is the better than the 155 80
Here in the south for 15" wheels the Michelin energy saver as is number 1 for me. For 17" wheels the continental pure contact eco plus is awesome and works for me.
I got fat tires on my bicycle and I thought the skinny ones going out of style ... I was ahead of my time on that
